Also wanted to let you know I have The devotion of suspect X now so ready to start with that one whenever you are.

So far this book is kinda slow for me. I’m not really able to get a handle on anyone’s thoughts cos no one really communicates smiley36. Except Calla since she’s the narrator. This is also a problem I have with single PoV books - you don’t often get enough insight on the other character(s) to care about them. I’m finding I’m more intrigued by Susan and Wren’s love story and the decisions they made.

Ofc Jonah is gonna be the love interest smiley36

I'm done until Chapter 7. I'm just now discovering this isn't a single book. This is a cliffhanger of sorts. There's a second book too. Do we continue with this or switch to a different one ?

@b : me too! Susan is a very intriguing character. He's this voice of reason and I'm interested to know how he and Susan fell in love.

Yeah I realized that too.

We can continue if you're up to it, let's see how we feel at the end of it.

(I hate cliffhangers and would have never suggested this had I known smiley19, sorry smiley19)

If you want to stop/ DNF and read a different book instead, I'm okay with it.

I don't mind reading if you don't Lizzie smiley36

If we feel like continuing, we can move on to the next book — otherwise, we can always ditch it and start something else.

@b: No no, it’s totally not an issue! I don’t mind reading cliffhangers — it’s just that this one came out of left field, lol. I mean, when I read the blurb, I didn’t check if it was a standalone or part of a series. Even I assumed it was just one book.

I'm actually okay with continuing this (I'm on Chapter 15 actually). Let's take a call after we finish it then.

Done ! Give me sometime I'll catch up till chapter 20 as discussed. If there's anything before that, I'll post like you did.

Like pls, there are plenty of Indians travelling to the US for work -- I'm not too sure everyone's 'too shy' to develop friends outside of work.

Yo, it's been real quiet here! smiley9

I finished the book. I quite liked it, did not feel it was as much of a cliffhanger, & I don't feel the need to dive into the sequel right away but I would like to read it at some point.

!!!!SPOILER REVIEW!!!!

I did warm up to Calla in the end. I liked that she managed to resolve her issues with her dad, but I wish there was more conversation between them.

Overall, I think the author managed to draw a nice picture of life in Alaska and explore how Calla is torn between this world and her world - she is after all a product of both her mom and her dad and I guess it remains to be seen which side of her will win. Jonah obviously represents Alaska and he won't survive out of there though he did say he would try for her, but I'm assuming he will feel like a fish out of water and is going to hate it so it's upto Calla to make that jump. I'm thinking the next will be them trying to make it work in Anchorage - and then realizing Bangor is where their heart is. Perhaps there might be a third act break up where Calla returns to Toronto, and then Jonah has to woo her back or she realizes that she doesn't love her life in Toronto after all and wants to return. But I would like Calla to make that choice for herself and not be influenced by the fact that Jonah is there. Perhaps her career as influencer will take off? She pulls in followers as a result of the Wild's work in Alaska and they attract investors too for Jonah's new company?

I think I'm giving this 3.5 stars.

Hey Lizzie, I completed it. Finally!! smiley36 I'm sorry work was hectic so couldn't find time to express my thoughts. I have some banner revision work & I'll post my thoughts & review too.

But damn, the book was painfully slow. It took a lot of time for me to get Clara. Jonah, to me is like a veteran. You can take them out of the military but you cannot remove the soldier from them. He's someone I feel who's very repulsive to change and likes to be in an environment which suits him best. Thoughts ?

Yeah you’re right - Jonah is one of those who’s stuck in their environment- I don’t think he will find a way to thrive or even survive outside of what he knows. Calla, imo, seems more adaptable but even so - her entire life has been in Toronto. So for her to make that switch is a tall order as well given how extreme the conditions are in Alaska.

The book was slow, but the relationships were nicely drawn out, I didn’t love it but didn’t hate it either and the writing was decent.

Wren is someone who seems to inspire loyalty and love without really giving much of himself to anyone - which is rare and strange and kinda unfair right? I mean Jonah, Agnes, Mabel, Susan and finally Calla - all loved him but he really doesn’t do much for them, he just followed his heart and did as he damn well pleased - even right down to his smoking till it killed him. I wonder about people like that … you keep giving, giving and giving without getting anything from them in return. Not that he asked for it - but still, he got it. Pretty lucky I’d call it.
