TV shows use marriages to create drama . Real life situations are rarely like this . Only one news I recently read in the newspapers was a MIL eloped with the would be son in law ditching the daughter at the mandap . Thats hilarious and so embarrassing for both families .

Itv does impact IRL people

Look at itv fandom. You will think those are teenagers crazy after lead pairing - nope, it has 40-50 yrs old so called aunties. People are suffering from anxiety depression and also impacting their lives like studying etc cause they became addicted to these kinda shows and spend a lot of time online due to it. The pressure builds and keep building it does affect your mental health and real life

I mean many people especially men out there stalk women in foreign countries and put the blame to movies where hero stalks heroine and she falls for him. Why can't it impact women as well.. not everyone just watch a show objectively. Pretty sure in India forums people who have been for a long time can remember lot of examples how a show impacted them irl

There was a movie called Yevadu with face swaps and stuff and I remember reasing an article about how a lady got inspired by that film. She and her BF killed her husband and she poured acid on the BF'S face and convinced her inlaws that he's her husband after plastic surgery to look like her husband

Then they got arrested after the family members got suspicious

Honestly, I doubt that anyone is really influenced by watching ITV serials... especially EK serials. Everyone knows they're dramatic and far from reality. If it were a serial with social commentary (eg. Balika Badhu), then it might have a little more influence perhaps 🤔.

Also, crime shows like Crime Patrol or CID have been known to influence people once in a while... making them pick up certain criminal tactics / MO from the show and think they can get away with it. But even so, we can't blame these shows for what people do after watching them... because the shows are about fighting crime and are not encouraging anyone to commit them.

At the end of the day, I believe in artistic liberty. If we start gatekeeping morals / ethics in ITV shows, where will we draw the line about what's allowed and what's not? It is not practical. Instead, it should be the viewer's responsibility to know what their personal values are and learn to take fictional stories with a grain of salt (or maybe the whole salt shaker smiley36).

Interesting topic though @Viswasruti... and a good write-up smiley9

I would agree with your opinion — at least in part.

Sometimes, I do think that showing toxic ideologies or behavior on screen can influence or encourage people who might already lean in that direction. But I wouldn’t place the blame entirely on the show creators. At the end of the day, they’re running a business and treating it as such. Like many businesses, their sense of social responsibility is pretty much non-existent 🤷🏻‍♀️

I believe we, as the audience, need to wise up and become more conscious of what we consume or indulge in as entertainment. If no one’s watching, they’ll eventually be forced to streamline their content. Until TRP ratings are regulated to reflect actual viewer sentiment instead of a small, skewed sample, this will keep happening — and we’ll keep having these same debates, with little effect. :/
