I’m disliking Nikolai now. He’s a brute and a bully and a stalker and I’m not a fan of such forced interactions. Once was my limit. I want Bran to smack him hard . He needs to come down from his high horse a bit. I get Brandon maybe lying about his attraction to Niko but that isn’t everything. If there’s a reason for Bran to be pushing N away, he needs to respect that. Not be in your face all the time. I didn’t like the way 12 ended.

So they caved - or rather Brandon caved

I don’t love that it happened when he was drunk and they both were to a certain extent. I don’t love Nikolai forcing his way over what Brandon’s wishes seem to be- even if his actions contradict them. It borders on non-consent/ Dubcon for me - even if it was hot. I want him to back off now - Bran can do the pursuing if he wants Nikolai - not that he will have to do much, Nikolai is down bad

Bran is obviously conflicted, led him to self-harm and I feel terrible for him. He needs to deal with the demons in his head.

I’m curious about the black ink that swirls around him when he’s in the midst of chaos - it feels metaphorical but to Bran it looks real.

I skimmed through almost the whole chapter after Nik kissed him and then was touching him up, I mean I usually dont mind dubcon/noncon but this put me off, maybe because its the first time im reading about two males doing it. I hope this was the only intimate scene we got, I dont want any more. I just want them to focus on the relationship and plot.

And I think you were right. Brandon has definitely gone through some abuse in the past which makes him insecure like this and thats why he is so uncomfortable with Nik. But Nik will probably help him out later.

I liked the part when he saw Bran and Clara kissing and was sooo jealous.. He was all cursing her out!

Noncon/ Dubcon is the biggest ick for me so idk how I’ll feel about this relationship or this book. I like the writing though, it’s free flowing and easy and gets into their thoughts in a way that makes it relatable (not that I relate to either of them but ykwim ). I just wish there wasn’t Dubcon. The chemistry is well written - sizzling actually if a little over the top.

Yeah I have heard a lot about Rina Kent, and actually I didnt enjoy the other book I read by her (Cruel King), it was a MF romance but I hardly felt any chemistry between the main characters. It was all physical. This book is definitely better written.

Youll just have to ignore the dubcon, I guess it will get better as the story goes on.

I like the chemistry here, the fact that I could feel the chemistry at the start itself without them even getting physical speaks a lot. Thats why I dont want any more intimate scenes. I like the sizzling chemistry they have by just looking at each other.

Frankly it’s Brandon that is keeping me engaged. I wanna know what’s troubling him and if Niko can help with that - I’m on board. Otherwise the relationship (or whatever they have so far) is feeling contrived and one-sided and lbr, it is physical too. They haven’t had a heart-to-heart chat yet. Niko is obsessed with breaking Bran and making him bend to his will, Bran is too in his own head to make sense of what he feels with Niko, so yeah it’s more of a hate vibe and a possession/ obsession vibe between them right now. Hopefully that changes soon. See, books like these make me feel like it’s such a missed opportunity. The author obviously has the writing chops to write a good romance. But she chose to go down this path which is kinda a let down.

Thats her style, she only writes dark romance. But she did write that this book isnt as dark as her other books, which is why I thought you might like it. Abhi to shuru hai, give them a chance. They have the potential to create a great emotional bond I feel.

Dubcon kya, I hope there is no more physical intimacy only at the end maybe...but for now I want to focus on developing their emotional bond and plot. Definitely more about Brandon's background/past trauma.
