First Vanga doesn't have fans.....smiley36

Second....Mani Rantnam is not being mocked......the ones who mocked Vanga are being mocked.....I mean .....you mock Vanga for making a certain kind of movie....but Mani Ratnam has been excused?? Why?? Just because he is an ace director.....I love Mani's movies......and I agree fully with whatever has been written here regarding his skills.....but it reeks of hypocrisy....when you butcher a director/actor for making a certain kind of movie....but the other one is excused because he made good movies in the past...... I hope you get the difference now....

Mani Ratnam is not being trolled......the hypocrisy is being trolled....smiley36

@bold: On what basis are you making these claims? Did any of the people you are calling out have watched Thug Life? First of all, did you watch Thug Life? On what basis are you saying it needs to be called out?

Just FYI- Mani Ratnam made the cult classic the iconic Nayakan, the first ever and greatest gangster movie of India which is used as a textbook by the likes of RGV.

Try to watch the movie if you can get your hands on it. Simply clean, outstanding and story based content with brilliant screenplay and cinematography- with no gimmicks and perverse elements.

Oh while you are at it, also look for Dalapathi, another gangster movie by MR which is also a cult classic with the characters based on Karna and Arjuna of Mahabharata.

Also watch Gayam by RGV. Another cult classic gangster come revenge story. Again, clean with zero perverse content.

i have seen his Roja, bombay, yuva, guru. PS1 , 2, dil se, raavan, and enjoyed most of his films. there is no doubt he is an excellent filmmaker. i loved his and manisha k combo, special mention to rani m too in yuva. the way he presented ash in guru and PS loved it.

but some of his movies were not upto to his calibre , yuva had so much potential but somewhere you loose the grip. same i felt for dil se, raavan a washout.

i wonder what went wrong with thugs for life. it turned out be a washout. and sad to see that vanga was mentioned in many of hte tweets going around on SMsmiley36

anyways, thanks for recommending some of his regional films, hopefully they have subtitles, will catch. but i hate watching with subtitles. lets see

RGV was very innovative relative to Indian cinema, imo, and rightfully lauded... I didn't watch any of his movies after 2005 (Sarkar) but several from the years before, among them Satya, too, because it was called a path-opening movie (which indeed it was for the Hindi ganster/crime genre). As I'm a fan of directorial debut movies, I also watched his Telugu debut Siva with Nargarjuna. Like with so many 'firsts' of directors-cum-writers, also this film was influenced by personal experiences, something I like very much...mostly it makes the movie quite honest and intense. I watched it with Indian friends because the version had no subtitles (later I watched the Hindi version with Englisch subtitles).

Shiva is another masterclass cinema. Iconic in every which way. Be the presentation of the protagonist or the antagonist or the stunts I mean you name it it’s just pathbreaking- one of the few movies which can put Indian Cinema on the global scene.🫡

If you are a sucker for romantic movies, do watch Moana Raagam and Alay Payuthe. They give you those feels despite being made more than almost 3 decades ago.

If you like sentimental cinema watch Anjali, a story about a 1 year old mentally disabled kid.

I personally prefer subtitles than dubbed because I feel the nativity gets lost with the dubbed voices. Recently I watched a German WW2 classic called Downfall made on Hitler’s last few days. I first tried the English dubbed version which didn’t quite deliver the punch but the OG German version is entirely another beast. (Highly recommend the movie BTW)

I can understand you not finding some of his movies up to your taste. Cinema is after all an open book that’s open to personal judgment. I also don’t find his movies made after 2015 up to the mark.

Yeah I really thought you have something substantial when you made such serious claims such as accusing Mani Ratnam falling to the level of chepos like Vanga. So you wanted people to ‘call out’ Mani Rantnam just based on the title of this thread else they shall be hypocrites? Okkkkieee….

That’s an excellent defense against the Vanga’s haters.
