Oh yessss for Mani (RGV, I didn't like that much)...Kamal and Rajinikhant/Mammootty...and Thalapathi with Santosh as cinematographer... two gems of the gangster movie genre.

Vanga's first wasn't a gangster movie...and what I know about Animal, I won't classify it as a gangster movie either.

RGV’s movies were an emotion, before he turned the way he currently is which I feel like he was trying to troll the people around him. All his movies pre Aag carry such excellent repeat watch value. Have you watched Satya? It was his debut in BW. If I say the cinematography and screenplay of the movie shook entire Bollywood opening their eyes to new way of movie making, it won’t be an exaggeration.

Well Mani Rathnam is Mani Ratnam. A rare GEM. Period!

I heard the script was written or brought to Maniratnam by Kamal Hassan . And they r relatives also .

Mani is Kamal’s Son-in-law. He married Kamal’s elder brother’s daughter Suhasini.

Suhasini is a good actress. She was cute as well. She had great chemistry with Mammootty.

One of those few actresses who have almost always played meaty meaningful roles in the so called male dominated scene.

Thanks to this thread, I am getting to reminisce the sheer genius of Mani Ratnam who is a matchless masterclass director. Why is he matchless? Because there is rarely any other director in the world, let alone India , who is as versatile. He made masterpieces in every genre of cinema. Mounaragam, Geetanjali, Nayakan,Roja,Bombay,Talapathi,Yuva,Agni Natchaitram, Anjali,Tiruda Tiruda, Iruvar, Alay Payuthey, Guru, Ravan,Kadal, Ponniyan Selvan - just to name a few gems from his vast and super versatile filmography.

RGV was very innovative relative to Indian cinema, imo, and rightfully lauded... I didn't watch any of his movies after 2005 (Sarkar) but several from the years before, among them Satya, too, because it was called a path-opening movie (which indeed it was for the Hindi ganster/crime genre). As I'm a fan of directorial debut movies, I also watched his Telugu debut Siva with Nargarjuna. Like with so many 'firsts' of directors-cum-writers, also this film was influenced by personal experiences, something I like very much...mostly it makes the movie quite honest and intense. I watched it with Indian friends because the version had no subtitles (later I watched the Hindi version with Englisch subtitles).

First Vanga doesn't have fans.....

Second....Mani Rantnam is not being mocked......the ones who mocked Vanga are being mocked.....I mean .....you mock Vanga for making a certain kind of movie....but Mani Ratnam has been excused?? Why?? Just because he is an ace director.....I love Mani's movies......and I agree fully with whatever has been written here regarding his skills.....but it reeks of hypocrisy....when you butcher a director/actor for making a certain kind of movie....but the other one is excused because he made good movies in the past...... I hope you get the difference now....

Mani Ratnam is not being trolled......the hypocrisy is being trolled....
