That’s a great help, would keep us all on the same sort of pages to avoid any spoilers. It also helps me focus on my other current read as well 😂

So I have read Chapter 7-8 today - you’re all probably caught up so hopefully it isn’t a spoiler.

I love Runyx’s writing in her dark verse series but this one, I am struggling with. I feel there’s too many details of the campus decor or what the library looks like.

I want to just get to the point of why she’s there and what they’re gonna discuss 😂 Also, I’m struggling with the third person pov as I prefer my books in first person pov.

I can feel the tension and intrigue between Caz and Salem, especially during their first party. Loved getting a third person pov from Caz’s side. I do agree with you Lizzie, it seems he’s in some sort of cult or something.

The story surrounding Olivia, her dad is really intriguing and keeping me hooked. I wonder what caused Olivia to apparently ‘kill’ herself and wonder who made her do what. Her dad went to great lengths to check it all out then killed himself after killing another. I wonder whether he’d found out something horrific killing the person he thinks was responsible and offed himself because he couldn’t live knowing whatever he might have found out. I’m probably overthinking 😂

Salem has also offered herself as bait for this awards thing which is the only connection between all the victims - that cannot be a coincidence. And their records going missing from the university database…. Caz seems to know something but that professor Merlin definitely knows something. I wonder whether he’s involved somehow 🤔

I havent read anything by runyx before, so I have nothing to compare it with, but I do agree with you. I'm still not able to get hooked. I mean the story isn't bad, I do wanna continue reading, I just feel it's going too slow and too much descriptions, not enough action.smiley37

Lol yes 😂

It’s good thing you haven’t got anything to compare it to yet.

I did a sneak peak at reviews on Goodreads and many have compared the writing and how this one seems so slow compared to the dark verse series.

Dark verse series is full of action, twists and turns and so much mystery, suspense. My favourite series from her and hoped this would come to a close second.

Dark Verse is still in my TBR ever since you recommended it

I do hope this one gets better though!

I have also never read anything by RunyX and have never read a dark romance. Butterscotch was talking about dub con so I’m a bit worried

But yeah I agree with you and Q0d- there’s a lot of description and not enough dialogue/ banter. I’m not hooked by the writing alone but also not ready to DNF cos there are enough mysteries to keep me interested. But I’m not dying to get into the next chapter, I’m ok pacing this smiley36

I’ve cheated on some read alongs I’ve done and read ahead of the group cos I just couldn’t wait to know what happened next. With this book I haven’t gotten there yet.

I don’t have a problem with the third person PoV. In fact, it was the other way round for me, i hated first person PoVs a while ago. Now I’ve come to accept them as a necessary evilsmiley36 and even like them at times cos most contemporary romances are written in first person PoV. What I really don’t like is single PoV, I want to hear from both the FMC and MMC. So I hope we get more Caz chapters.

I get what you mean about dub con, the first time I read a dark romance I was disgusted with all the BDSM stuff.smiley36 But after reading 2-3 DR books, I got used to it and now even dub con/non con I'm okay with. You grow comfortable with it whether you like it or not.smiley36 The only thing I'm still not okay with and probably will never be is the MMC or FMC cheating on/with each other, and harrem/reverse harem is an absolute put offsmiley11 As soon as I see the word 'reverse harem' written near any book I run for my life.smiley36

The only books where I couldn't wait to see what happens next and had to keep reading have been Colleen Hoover and Freida McFadden so far for me. And maybe Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris.

I'm usually more comfortable with first person PoV especially when it comes to dark romance, but here I don't mind it. I'm okay with the third person narrative but like you said I want more Caz chapters.

Yeah the mystery is keeping me intrigued and going. I just hope there’s a satisfying explosion of a story behind this story. Some authors tend to build it up then give a disappointing plot behind the secrets 😂 it falls flat.

Dub-con has become quite common across lots of dark romance unfortunately. I tend to skip past the sex scenes because they’re all repetitive now 😂 in my head, I just think they’ve had a really good time and now can’t stop wanting the other because they’re the BEST 😂 it all seems to follow this pattern.

I am hoping for more of Caz’s point of view, I like duet povs in stories so I know what the other is thinking and feeling.

Yes! Reverse Harem or vice versa I cannot do.

I do enjoy some cheating books where there’s angst and the one cheated on moves on and the cheater suffers. There are some I’ve read where the main characters cheated with each other and it doesn’t even make sense.

There’s no justification of the cheating - like I know nothing can justify but there isn’t like a strong, solid explanation to why they cheated.

Same, I am hoping we will get more from Caz point of view.

What chapter are you on now? I’m going to read 9&10 soon.
