Hey guys. I need some help. I read a book a long time ago about a oister kid who is placed with a family and their 2 kids. He struggles to adjust but the family is really welcoming. One day he helps the father and son in their barn and feels like a part of family but when the father mentions paying him for the chores, he feels like an outsider and decides to run away. There's a storm during the night that he plans to run away on and he helps rescue the animals. In the end, he is adopted by the family. Has anyone read this book? I need to know what its called. It has been bugging me for weeks

I have no idea! Have you tried a Google or AI search?

Tagging some more readers on this forum - in case anyone has read this book and the summary rings a bell?

I did find a book that fits this description, but it's about a girl, not a boy.

This is kinda vague, do you have some more details? Like any character names (even minor), or any phrase that you might remember. Were the 2 kids sons? One son one daughter? Is this a children's book? Middle grade? Do you remember anything about the cover or the author? How long ago did you read it?

If you can remember anything else at all, please share. Even the slightest details end up helping the search sometimes.

I was also gonna ask you to share in r/whatsthatbook but I see you already have...

Its a middle grade level children's book. the two kids were a boy and a girl. The cover was green. I think it showed a farm or something from what recall. I read it years ago. For some inexplicable reason, its memory came back and the inability to name the book has been drivubf me crazy

Is it Gib Rides Home by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, by any chance? The plot doesn't sound completely the same but it's what's came up for me

No. That book did not focus much on the orphanage.. it was more about the kid's life and adjustment with the family he was placed with
