Apart from 1-2 pictures in the entire lot of pictures for R5… rest of them were so easy.

For a potterhead, it won’t be difficult to solve at all.

With that subject finished, below are the potions submitted by each house.

Name: Benevolens potion

This means "well-meaning" or "kind," often used to describe someone who acts with goodwill. It’s the perfect potion to turn even the most evil person into a nice person.

Ingredients (all these elements are needed to make a person nice because of what they signify)

3 Phoenix tears (for healing emotional / physical wounds and promoting compassion).

1 Hippogriff feather (freely given, for loyalty, protectiveness and respect) Buckbeak is a Hippogriff.

A sliver of Elder Wand remains (from near Dumbledore's grave, for selflessness and the ability to choose good over power)

2 drops of Veritaserum (to promote honesty and authenticity in niceness)

3 Valerian roots (found in most magical gardens, promotes calmness over irritability)

4 drops of Unicorn horn extract (for purity of heart)

A handful of seashells from Shell Cottage beach where Dobby was buried (symbolising freedom, sacrifice, resilience and unconditional kindness).

A silver of crystallized water from the Forest of Dean lake (for clarity of purpose, Snape's act of kindness and loyalty to Lily despite the big risk led Harry to Gryffindor sword here)

5 petals from a Dirigible Plum (grows in unusual gardens like Xenophilius Lovegood's, enhances acceptance of others)

2 Jobberknoll feathers (tiny blue speckled feathers from the Jobberknoll bird found in northern Europe, promotes thoughtfulness before speaking)

A pinch of powdered Moonstone (promotes peace and harmony)

Brewing Instructions:

Begin at twilight during a waxing gibbous moon, using a silver cauldron.

Fill the cauldron with clear spring water and heat to a gentle simmer.

Carefully place the Elder Wand remains at the bottom of the cauldron first, allowing it to infuse the water with its essence of sacrifice.

Add sea shells gently into the cauldron while saying ‘the greatest happiness can be found helping others’ remembering Dobby. (This imbibes Dobby’s values).

Add the Moonstone powder and stir clockwise seven times until the water takes on a pearly sheen.

Gently lower the Hippogriff feather into the mixture.

Add the Valerian roots and allow them to steep until the potion turns a warm amber color.

When the amber deepens, add the crystallized water from the Forest of Dean.

Crumble the Jobberknoll feathers between your fingers and sprinkle them across the surface, whispering "patience" as you do.

Add the Dirigible Plum petals one by one, allowing each to fully dissolve.

Add the drops of Unicorn horn extract at the four cardinal points of the cauldron.

Carefully add the drops of Veritaserum, which will cause the potion to temporarily clear.

Finally, add the Phoenix tears one at a time, stirring gently between each addition.

The potion should now emit a soft golden glow with occasional flickers of blue light.

Remove from heat and let it rest under moonlight for three hours.

The finished potion should be taken in three doses over three days. The first dose should be taken while thinking of a kind act you've witnessed. The second while recalling a time when someone was nice to you despite difficulty. The third while looking at your reflection.

The Elder Wand remains are crucial as they contain the memory of ultimate sacrifice and the choice to be good rather than powerful. The Jobberknoll feathers and Dirigible Plum petals are new additions that specifically target sharpness of tongue and judgment, transforming them into considerate speech and open-mindedness—essential qualities of niceness rather than just kindness.

additional information about the ingredients

Veritaserum: A powerful truth serum mentioned throughout the series. Professor Snape brews it, and it's used in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when questioning Barty Crouch Jr.

Valerian roots: Mentioned specifically in the series as a potion ingredient. They're used in the Draught of Living Death and taught in Potions class.

Unicorn horn: Unicorns appear in the Harry Potter series, and their horn is mentioned as a valuable potion ingredient used at Hogwarts.

Forest of Dean: This is where Harry and Hermione camp in Deathly Hallows, and where the sword of Gryffindor is hidden in the frozen lake.

Dirigible Plums: These are mentioned in the books as growing outside Luna Lovegood's house. Her father Xenophilius wears them as earrings, and they're described as orange radish-like fruits that supposedly enhance the ability to accept extraordinary things.

Jobberknoll feathers: These are canon ingredients in the Harry Potter universe. They're mentioned specifically as components for Memory Potions and truth serums.

Moonstone: This is a legitimate potion ingredient in the Harry Potter universe, mentioned in the books as an ingredient for the Draught of Peace.

In the heart of darkness, where ambition weaves its silent threads, there is a potion that the most skeptical dare barely name. It does not burn, it does not poison, it does not deceive: it transforms. A whisper of altruism distilled between thorns of brambles and forgotten memories. Only those who know the true strength hidden in kindness can bear its weight... or dare to mix it.

Team Slytherin presents:

Velvet Venom

Image

Venenata Caritas, known only to a select few as Velvet VenomFor when you absolutely must be nice… but on your own cunning terms.

You asked for a potion that could make you nice, not different. So instead of brewing sunshine and rainbows, we crafted something that allows you to maintain your full, glorious edge — just wrapped in velvet.

Velvet Venom doesn’t erase your personality. It enhances it. It smooths your words, sharpens your charm, and lets you deliver diplomacy with a smile sharp enough to cut glass. Ideal for mandatory civility and well-timed graciousness, this potion ensures that you seem nice — all while keeping control firmly in your hands.

We assumed you wouldn’t want anything less.😎

1000085401.jpg

Overview

Velvet Venom isn’t your average niceness-in-a-bottle — it’s a tactical charm offensive disguised as civility. Brewed for those who play the long game, it smooths your edges just enough to slide through social minefields with a smile that suggests you’re three moves ahead. It doesn’t make you nicer; it makes you undeniably effective. Whether you’re surviving a forced gathering, navigating office politics, or serving a compliment that cuts and soothes in one breath, Venenata Caritas lets you be gracious on your own terms — polished, poised, and still deliciously dangerous.

Because kindness is boring… unless it’s weaponized.😏

1000085401.jpg

Brewing Instructions

Ingredients:

  • 6 dried asphodel petals – cool-headed thinking
  • 1 single unicorn hair – moral balance, despite yourself
  • 2 drops veela essence – irresistible charm
  • 1 small murtlap tentacle, crushed – internal soothing
  • 1/2 teaspoon moonstone dust – stabilizes emotions
  • Pinch of ground basilisk scale – for edge and quiet threat
  • Brewed chamomile & black tea – civility, bitter-sweet
  • 1 drop honeydew nectar – adds sweetness, feigned or not

Brewing Time: 4 days

Preparation:

Day 1 – The Calm Base

  • Brew chamomile and black tea, let steep until strong
  • Add asphodel petals and moonstone dust; simmer until the brew turns pale silver
  • Introduce crushed murtlap tentacle; stir gently until the mixture thickens
  • Leave to rest overnight, ideally near a window during a waxing moon

Day 2 – The Velvet Cloak

  • Add veela essence and unicorn hair — potion will hiss slightly when touched by the unicorn strand
  • Stir anti-clockwise thrice while focusing on your most well-mannered rival
  • Let cool and store in a sealed black-glass jar for 24 hours

Day 3 – Venom Beneath the Surface

  • Add basilisk scale dust at twilight
  • Whisper a personal grievance into the cauldron — this fuels the potion’s truth-layer
  • Rest overnight with a silver spoon resting across the cauldron’s rim (a Slytherin signature)

Day 4 – Final Poise

  • Add honeydew nectar while smirking (intent matters)
  • Final stir: clockwise, slowly, until the potion gleams with a green-and-silver swirl
  • Bottle in a flask with a green wax seal or silver serpent emblem

Bonus Brewing Tip:

For best results, stir with your own wand — but if yours happens to be made of hawthorn, expect a sharper edge to the charm. (Side effects may include flustering Gryffindors. Delightfully.)😈

1000085401.jpg

Effects

  • Suppresses snappish urges without compromising wit
  • Amplifies natural charisma and slyness
  • Makes the drinker socially magnetic, just short of dangerously charming
  • Duration: 6-8 hours or until someone tests your patience

Appearance & Flavor

  • Color: Emerald green with a slow-moving silver swirl
  • Taste: Rich black tea with a velvety floral afterbite

Warnings

  • Use sparingly; overuse may result in dangerously flirtatious diplomacy and admirers you did not intend to acquire.
  • May induce a smirk that people want to slap. Side effects include seductive articulation and passive-aggressive perfection.
  • Not to be mixed with truth serum, alcohol, or compliments you don’t mean.
  • Avoid eye contact with exes or enemies for at least 2 hours post-ingestion — it’s simply too powerful.

Note: Highly regulated by the Ministry of Magic due to potential misuse in manipulation.

🐍 Slytherins aren’t cruel. We’re just clever enough to make kindness a weapon. 🔪

Benevolix

If properly brewed, Benevolix makes the drinker noticeably nicer, kinder, and more empathetic for 24 hours.

Required Duration:

  • Soaking Time: 14 days (fortnight)

  • Moonlight Infusion: 3 hours under the full moon

  • Brewing Time: Varies per step.

Ingredients:

  1. 9¾ Fairy Wings

  2. 22 vials of alkaline water

  3. Shells from 5 Ashwinder eggs

  4. 4 pinches of finely ground, purified Unicorn horn dust

  5. Hair or feather from the creature the drinker's Patronus takes the form of.

    • (If Patronus cannot be cast, substitute with hair/feather from a creature matching the wand core's species)

  6. 1 drop of Runespoor venom (must be from a live Runespoor for maximum potency)

  7. 7 Daisy seeds

  8. A pinch of crushed silver

  9. 12 petals of Asphodel flowers

  10. 1 thoroughly cleaned Acromantula pincer

Brewing Instructions:

  1. Soak fairy wings in alkaline water for a fortnight.

  2. Place the mixture under full moonlight for 3 hours.

  3. Pour it into a fortified leaded cauldron. Add Ashwinder eggshells and grounded Unicorn horn. Heat on medium flame till the potion gives off deep orange fumes.

  4. Add Patronus creature hair/feather or wand-core-substitute as needed.

    • If the drinker cannot cast a Patronus Charm, they lack the required positive emotions, and the potion will not affect them.

  5. Add Runespoor venom. Stir over low flame until the potion turns whitish blue.

  6. Tap the cauldron with your wand and say the spell Benevolare every 14th stir.

  7. Add Daisy seeds and stir until the potion becomes reddish-purple.

  8. Add crushed silver and Asphodel petals. Once it bubbles, add the Acromantula pincer. Stir counterclockwise until it turns velvety red.

Final Appearance:

  • A velvety red, tasteless drink with red wisps of smoke that settle within a minute.

Storage Instructions:

Store in crystal vials in a cool, dark cupboard away from direct sunlight or magical interference.

Dosage Instructions:

  • One vial for a full 24-hour effect.

  • Do not exceed 1 dose in a 48-hour period.

Expiration and Potency Duration:

  • Expiration: 6 months after brewing

  • Potency Duration: 24 hours per single dose

Warnings and Contraindications:

  • Not to be consumed by pregnant women and children.

  • Werewolves cannot consume Benevolix a week before the full moon.

  • Do not consume if under the influence of Veritaserum, Amortentia, or mind-altering charms or under influence of alcohol.

Side Effects:

  • Overconsumption of Benevolix could result in damage to the Prefrontal cortex.

  • Because of the presence of venom and silver, the drink could be fatal.

  • As the potion wears off, the drinker could have mood swings or be in a daze.

Discrete Administration Ideas:

  • Mix in the strawberry glaze on a banana/banana shake.

  • Mix in the filling of a red velvet cheesecake.

  • Mix in an Indian curry.

  • Mix in sauce or ketchup.

  • Mix in unsweetened tea or juice

Authors’ note:

Naming Convention:

Benevolix is derived from benevolentia which is a Latin word meaning "good will," "benevolence," or "kindness".

The spell Benevolare which is combination of "bene" (Latin word meaning "good will") and volare (Latin word meaning "fly")

So, "benevolare" could poetically be interpreted as "soaring with kindness".

Ingredient Selection and their Symbolic Significance

Acromantula Pincer: Acromantulas are typically regarded with fear. Yet, they are capable of loyalty and kindness when treated with respect. Acromantulas also symbolize emotional boundaries, that is, compassion without self-erasure.

Ashwinder Eggshells: Ashwinder eggs are added in Love potions, and in our potion, Ashwinder eggs enhance the gentle draw of empathy.

Asphodel Petals: Asphodel symbolizes regret and remembrance, often connected with mourning what was lost. In this context, it represents the childlike innocence and empathy that may have been "buried" over the years due to hardship, cynicism, or emotional wounds.

Daisy Seeds: In the language of flowers, the daisy represents innocence, kindness, and simplicity.

Fairy Wings: Usually used in Beautification potions in the Wizarding world, Fairy Wings are included here to symbolically “beautify the heart.”

Hair or Feather from the Creature the Drinker’s Patronus Takes the Form of / Wand Core: In the wizarding world, each wizard’s Patronus is unique and may change over time in response to their emotional state. Likewise, every wizard’s wand core is distinct, reflecting their personality. Including a hair or feather from the creature that represents the drinker's Patronus—or from the creature of the same species as their wand core—serves as a representation of their inner nature. This ingredient also adds a layer of rarity and difficulty in potion-making, as both the Patronus and wand core are deeply personal and the knowledge is not easily accessible.

Runespoor Venom: Runespoor is a three-headed serpent. But because the three heads are often at odds with one another, they tend to fight between each other and die, so it's rare to find a Runespoor alive long enough to safely extract venom, thus increasing the complexity of the potion.

Silver: Silver, a precious and valuable metal, must be used sparingly for reasons of cost efficiency. It is used to reflect the enhancement of the drinker’s personality and value because of the kind deeds they will perform.

Unicorn: Unicorns are the purest creatures in the Wizarding World. Their presence in the potion is symbolic of inner purity.

Color and Quantity Selection and Their Symbolic Significance

Deep Orange: Mirrors Shreya's username’s color.

Quantity count: The quantities of certain ingredients match the birthdays months of team members .

9¾: References the platform 9 3⁄4 from which Hogwarts Express leaves from and to Hogwarts. Also, because of the fraction, the potioneer’s dissecting skills are also put to test.

Name: Draught of Benevolent Intent

Purpose: Softens temperament, encourages empathy, inspires kindness.

Ingredients :

  1. 1 pinch of powdered unicorn horn – purity of heart.

  2. 3 drops of phoenix tears – compassion and healing.

  3. A sprig of asphodel – associated with death, but in potion lore, it symbolizes remembrance and empathy.

  4. 2 crushed petals of a forget-me-not – for gentleness and emotional connection.

  5. 1 teaspoon honeywater – natural sweetness, promotes warmth in personality.

  6. A hair from a kneazle – a magical creature known to sense good vs evil; helps direct the potion’s intent.

  7. Moonstone dust - stabilizes emotions and enhances magical effects.

Brewing Instructions:

  1. Begin by gently heating a cauldron over a low flame. Add 150 ml of purified water.

  2. Add the asphodel sprig and simmer for 5 minutes, until water takes on a pale green hue.

  3. Stir clockwise three times, then add the honeywater and powdered unicorn horn.

  4. Wait until the potion begins to shimmer, then add moonstone dust while chanting "Concordia."

  5. Drop in the kneazle hair and forget-me-not petals, and stir counterclockwise until the potion turns a calming lavender color.

  6. Add 3 drops of phoenix tears as the final step and remove from heat immediately.

  7. Let potion cool. It should emit a faint warmth and smell like fresh spring rain mixed with vanilla.

    8. (Optional): If Hritik is nearby, let him swirl the cauldron once—just for luck.

Effect Duration: Lasts 24 hours. Continued daily use for 7 days shows long-term improvement in behavior.

Side Effects: Occasional humming, spontaneous compliments, and a desire to pet small animals.

And we've reached the end of this championship...it's time for the final subject - Defense Against the Dark Arts!

a close up of a man with a robotic eye and the words `` constant vigilance '' .

Remember I'm not sending any reminders out. If you miss your slot, your House suffers the consequences.

Each individual who plays either 1, 2, or 3 slots will receive 100 bonus points towards their own score on top of whatever the team earns for their House.

This round it is a one-on-one head-on game. I will post a question and then name the player who can try first. If they get it wrong, the opponent gets to try. The first person to get it right gets 100 points. If both get it wrong, then they can try again. On the second try, the person to get it right gets 90 points. If still wrong, then we try a third time for 80 points. We'll do this 5 times (aka until we reach 60 points) and then if both people still get it wrong, I give the answer and neither member gets any points.

We will do 11 questions and for each question, you will have exactly 30 seconds to respond. If someone answers in 30 seconds, then that's great, else I'll give your opponent a chance.

This round is running until 24th Apr 11:59 PM IST.

Note that in the audience names below, the italics are for the backups in that specific order. If you want to add other audience members, just let me know.
