Welcome, welcome, welcome. Welcome students to this year's Hogwarts Championship. It is time to show your house pride. It is time to show your wit. It is time to show your charm. It is time to shine!
Over the next 2 weeks or so, you will be tested on 7 different subjects. And each subject will be presented in a fun and different way. Now to be clear, while you are part of a house, you are playing an individual game to help lead your house to victory (and to become the new Head Girl or Boy of your house!).
Confused? Well let me explain in the rules below.
Each person is going to rank all 4 houses in the order that they want to be part of them. The 4 houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. I will do my best to try and give you your first 2 choices, but I ask for the ranking so that I can have an equal number (or close to equal) in each house.
There will be 2 types of winners. First, of course, there will be a winning house, which means that entire house's members win. Then, in each house, there will be a winner as well, which is the person who scored the most points.
In 3 out of 7 rounds, you will be playing a 100% individual game. What will happen is that your points will be added to the house. There are also "bonus" points for most rounds that will be awarded to individuals only. For example, if you submit in the first 24 hours, you might get an additional x points, if you submit in 36 hours, you might get x/2 points. The "bonus" points will be added to your score only. So if you score 100 points in a round + 20 bonus points, the 100 points will count towards your points and your house points, but the 20 bonus points will be yours only.
In 3 out of 7 rounds, only a few people in your team need to play and you have to decide as a team who those people will be. These will be head-on rounds, where you will face either 2 or 3 different houses on Discord. I will require each member of the house to play at least 1 of these rounds. I will give you slots, plus your competition about 48 hours before the round so you can work out who will be playing those rounds. Again there will be bonus points here to the individuals who play the round along with whatever they score in the round itself.
In 1 round, I will leave it to you as a house to decide if you want 1 person to play the round alone, 2 people, 3 people, or the entire house. I will require only 1 submission from each house, but you will get enough time and it is a slightly creative round involving me.
For the first time ever, I will be trying out audience in the Discord rounds. If it works in the first Discord round, I will bring it to the other 2, but if it doesn't work, I might cancel it for the remaining rounds or rejig it.
If there aren't an equal number of people in the houses or if someone drops from the game, then I will ensure the house is not disadvantaged. After each round, I will take the average of that house score and add it to the house points to make up for the lack of a member or two. For example, if Gryffindor has 8 members and the other houses have 10 members, then I will take the average of Gryffindor's score, multiply it by 2, and add it to their house points. Gryffindor will only be disadvantaged in the 3 rounds that require a few members to play since they'll have less members to choose from.
So...if that all makes sense then what are you waiting for? Sign up by 11th April 11:59 PM IST, rank the houses in order, and show off that house pride!
