What past glory exactly? Every era thinks the one before it was golden. I was watching Zubeida the other day and there’s literally a scene where they whine about how films 'used to be better' before it all became about skimpy clothes. And then I saw a tweet saying new nepos can’t match the ‘magic’ of Student of the Year… a movie everyone dragged when it released. Maybe things wouldn’t feel so bleak if we stopped romanticizing everything through nostalgia goggles.

The only real challenge Bollywood's facing is box office numbers, and that's what's got everyone’s knickers in a twist. But that’s a global issue, not just Bollywood. It’ll be interesting to see how cinema adapts, will it fade behind OTT the way people thought it would when TV came? As for quality, I don’t think it’s dipped overall. Bollywood might feel worse right now because of this weird nationalist cinema wave, thanks to the suffocating govt, but that’s a phase. It'll pass.
