Pitch Report | Deep Dasgupta and Matthew Hayden: First day game here in the City of Joy. It is a fresh pitch, a little extreme on one side of the square so the dimensions are lopsided. On the right is a 57m boundary, while the left side is 70m. Straight is 69m. It is an interesting pitch which has a lot of grass, but when you touch it, it does feel rigid like the lawn mover has gone through it and cut the tops of it. Will it grip and hold during the day? Maybe it will and that could make it a little tricky to bat. There are some overhead conditions, doubt it will produce rain though. This surface won’t change much but as a captain, you’d rather bat on it and take on the short boundary. The captains need to be well aware of that. This has been a high scoring venue, but since it is a day game, it might not be as high as we are used to.

Mitchell Marsh: To be honest I thought 180-190 was par, but the ball came on to the bat better once it got a bit older. Obviously, blessed to have Pooran in our side. I have played against him (Markram) a lot, but it's nice to bat along with with him. We are traditional with the way we play. We try to play good cricket shots. It's a small ground with a fast outfield. I have been staying good with my routine and thinking. I try to watch the ball and have fun. Hopefully I keep continue scoring runs going forward. Hopefully I watch the boys get a win.

Phew! That was absolute carnage. Lucknow Super Giants' top three must be the most in-form and feared top three in the tournament. It was Markram who set them off today as Marsh took a few overs to get going but it wasn't long when runs were flowing from both ends. The pair added 99 runs for the opening wicket before Markram fell short of his fifty. If KKR thought they could pull things back from there then they were in dreamland because what followed was just brutal T20 batting from Marsh and Pooran. The duo spared none and just kept smacking them out of the park. Marsh went from 50 to 81 in 12 balls while Pooran notched up his fifty off just 21 balls and applied the finishiing touches to the innings. They would have happily taken 238 when Rahane decided to bowl and it is now up to their bowlers to defend it. The pitch is still good for batting and KKR will hope they can chase this total down.
