India’s Spin Dominance Could Decide the Final
India’s spinners—Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja—have been ruthless, taking 21 wickets in the tournament, the most by any team.
New Zealand’s Spinners Are Not Far Behind
New Zealand’s spin attack has also impressed, scalping 17 wickets. If they click in Dubai, they could challenge India’s batting lineup.
Matt Henry’s Fitness a Major Concern
NZ pacer Matt Henry’s shoulder injury is a key talking point. His absence could weaken their attack against a strong Indian batting lineup.
Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill said he is ready to take "calculated risks" when the team is under pressure to realise a long-standing dream.
"It is about me being in my zone and taking calculated risks. I think that is the hallmark of my team and myself. I take risks at the point when I feel the team is under pressure. Most of my batting is instinctive and I don't pre-plan," Gill said on the eve of the final.
"Obviously, it is a big occasion and I will try my best and I will prepare myself accordingly. But the nature of cricket is such that no matter how much you try, you can't score 100 or 50 in every match," he added.
Match will be play at same surface >> india beat pakistan with out varun, our spinners took 5 wkts in that game. pandya ( bowling)& shami have to play big role today. Although nz spinner not even 60% successful at this surface or any other match especially vs India their spinners are piece of cake for india.
While spinners are India's biggest advantage, their top-order bats are the eye, and, perhaps, the headline grabbers. Rohit Sharma can take off, Shubman Gill can adjust tempo with scarcely believable ease, and Virat Kohli knows his role with crystal clarity. They have Shreyas Iyer to follow, he's dynamic and has worked on his technique to become India's point of difference. And if that's not enough, they got KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya too. It's as complete a side on paper, it's broken jinxes - in the 2023 semi-final and 2024 final - and is well placed to go big again. But New Zealand did reduce India to 30 for 3 in the group game and have toppled strong Indian line-ups in the past, most notably in 2019. It promises to be fun challenge with them against Jamieson and Henry especially.
Prasanna S: "An unpopular suggestion but perhaps a tactical one. Should India play Washington instead of Kuldeep today? It means India have 9 specialist batsmen in a big game like this and he can challenge NZ left handers especially Rachin, Tom Latham and Santner. He had a wonderful outing in home test series against the Kiwis. " Kuldeep's more a wicket-taking option than Washington. With the pitch expected to be slow and offer turn, Kuldeep is likelier to make more impact in that he can dismiss specialist batters. Also, India bat deep as is, so they don't really need cover.
Sanket: "Can NZ play Conway here in place Will young, as apart from that 100 Young hasn't been able to put runs and also he is very susceptible against spin especially on this kind of wicket against such a quality spin unit. Conway is an excellent player of spin so playing him here can be game changing move and you are changing and chopping at the top means there won't be any shuffle in batting line up"
It's bright and the shadows are covering small patches around the perimeter of the playing field. The players are out practising. Will Young has a few gentle throwdowns. Ravindra's bowling with Herath overseeing, Gary Stead is with them, having a chat. Bracewell and Phillips roll their arms over. Latham nails an off drive, nice visuals from practice. For India, Rohit's walked out. Gill eyes the pitch, Santner walks up to him for a chat. As NZ's captain leaves, Gill practices a few drives from behind the ropes around the edge of the pitch.
