To everyone disliking Amaal, Baseer, et al…
Simple, because people are hypocrites. We don't appreciate good stories and good writing, but nevertheless crib about awful acting and direction, and voices that sound AI generated.. we cannot take 'that' time to watch something that actually deserves a chance.
I would not know about others but to me a major reason for bad content is because regardless of what people might say, a large percentage of them love below average content.
Have not watched either of these movies. But good artistic movies still work in India.
Mrs is one example. It was well accepted by audience.
There needs to be some shock factor or hype about the movie for it to do well. If the movie is not promoted well, then it's bound to flop or go unnoticed. Also boring movies don't really excite the audience no matter what type of movie it is.
Exactly my point! People complain about bad content but still give it views, while great storytelling gets ignored. If we want better films, we need to watch and support better films. Otherwise, we’re just fueling the very system we criticize.
Fair point, but Mrs. is a remake of The Great Indian Kitchen, which was already a critically acclaimed film. It had a proven track record. The real challenge is for original films without an existing fanbase—like Superboys of Malegaon—to get the recognition they deserve.
Also, define 'boring'.
Superboys of Malegaon is anything but boring. It has drama, romance, comedy, and even some action!
It's commercial cinema, not art cinema!
Mrs. resonated not because of artistic value, but because it struck a chord with 80% of Indian women who still struggle to get minimum respect as homemakers!
Mrs. has a built-in emotional hook. THAT'S why it worked.
It's neither original, nor particularly well-made either.
Malegaon would mostly appeal to people who are into movies culture , a normal person at best would like it since it's practically an ode to cinema.
That said , people resort to mainstream movies with stars and their lackeys more to a normie, it's much more marketed , if it's a hot or flop it would be in news more , so a dharma movie would always appeal higher than an indie movie and would generate more news.
However nadaniyan being refernced is also restricted to regular movie lovers as I haven't seen most people notice that a said son movie released or khushi kapoor exists in normie junta.

I have not seen it so no idea. It was not promoted well, so that is one reason. Movies with unknown faces don't really work well. Also there is no eyecandy. I don't know if nadaniyan worked at bo. But Ibrahim is well known for his looks. So it might be another reason for people to choose it over superboys of malegaon. Pretty privilege is real thing.
This forum isn't really reflecting the general audience, I think.
The Superboys had been a festival movie made by the Excel people (Reema, Zoya, Farhan) and is neither Mainstream nor commercial. It got a quasi unnoticed theatrical release Friday last week (28th) for some days on some screens before getting shifted to Amazon Prime.
I don't know if it is still in cinemas...Sacnilk only documented the boxoffice until Wednesday:
Day 1 [1st Friday] ₹ 0.5 Cr -
Day 2 [1st Saturday] ₹ 0.6 Cr
Day 3 [1st Sunday] ₹ 0.6 Cr
Day 4 [1st Monday] ₹ 0.2 Cr
Day 5 [1st Tuesday] ₹ 0.13 Cr
Day 6 [1st Wednesday] ₹ 0.12 Cr
Total₹ 2.15 Cr
Generally, media are more interested in subjects/topics that give them views...not even Farhan promoted this movie the way it would have deserved by releasing news about Don 3!
As we have members here who really are interested to things related to (Hindi/Indian) movies, we get at least the trailer threads to get to know about less promoted movies.
