This was coming. Rain has had the last say and the match has been called off. It rained since morning and it never really stopped to give the groundstaff any chance. With the cut-off time being 7:32 pm, there was no way this ground could have been readied for a 20-over contest. Both teams share 1 point each and it means that tomorrow's encounter between England and Afghanistan has turned into a virtual knockout with the loser becoming the third team to be eliminated. Group A has already been decided, this washout does complicate things in Group B. It has been raining in Lahore as well, but we'll hope for some cricket tomorrow. For now, cheers and bye..

Okay then, this wraps up the first washout of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Sad that it has been called off even without the toss. Now, this means that the next game in Group B between Afghanistan and England will be a virtual knockout. A promising and growing Afghanistan side will be up against a strong and wounded England team, looking for redemption in this tournament. Although the kind of cricket the Afghans have played lately and the way they have ascended to the occasions, it promises to be another belter of a clash. Both sides are searching for their first win respectively, and another loss would potentially put qualification hopes to a dash. The Gaddafi Stadium of Lahore will light up once again on Wednesday, 26th February and the first ball will be bowled at 9 am GMT. We hope the weather does not play any spoilsport there.

Group B scenario became interesting.

Afghanistan has to beat both Australia and England to have a sure berth in the semifinals.

Similarly England has to beat both South Africa and Afghanistan to have a sure berth in the semifinals.

More abandoned matches make it even more interesting.

SA and Australia are still not in the SFs.

Cheers..
