It was not fatalism until Jhanak made it so…Unless you are suggesting that Ani should have run roughshod of J’s wishes. It is no use saying that J wanted Ani to stand up for the relationship when he actually didn’t believe in it… It’s another thing that when Ani stood up for the relationship J had developed a saviour complex of sorts… J only responding to Ani only when he is in pain or when he turns away…or when he is assertive over and above the stated matter is the stupidest trope used - meaning to say women don’t mean what they say… Foolish to suggest this in this day and age and time…
For me it’s all about expediency one way or the other…Giving a female character the useless burden of propriety simply becos it is presumptively her burden to carry not to “break homes “ etc whereas the nuance of whose home is actually broken is all lost because of an incident or the elephant in the room the writer refuses to address in the story and we are all happily piling on to the guy that he has lost credibility… well he never asked to be in this position… the only thing I don’t accept in Ani’s characterisation atm is his lack of introspection on how did that one off event happen unless Leena wants to make it seem that it wasn’t a one off… which I refuse to accept until it is stated in the plot..
Feel free to pit one against the other and choose one corner BUT
For me this serial from the middle was about J holding the key to the imbroglio not Ani cos it was her INSISTENCE that the non relationship of Ani and Arshi needed to be protected which she is now throwing at Arshi’s face off and on that she GAVE Arshi the legitimacy that is of relevance- does she understand that it wasn’t worth it to throw away her rights?
Rekha - all are flawed, grey whatever. At the onset, J is not perfect. She is confused holier than thou person who puts a lot of pride in her ability to sacrifice bcos of her upbringing. It could be a prop for her to hold on to given all the trauma she has experienced. She only wanted love and Ani was the only person who stood by her in her life
Jhanak was never single minded in her want to have Ani stay with Arshi because they were in a relationship first. That much was clear to audience, we refer to this as her duality. Jhanak was always struggling to do the right thing but there were many times where had Ani stood by his wanting J not Arshi, by doing right; they would have ended up alright.
If Ani had been steadfast in his love for Jhanak, without resorting to deceit or performance, I think J would have seen his pov. Ani's duality and lack of trust till he thought Jhanak almost died (actually even after this), would not let her fully accept him.
Everytime J found Ani doing things for her she wanted everyone to know it; but Ani always hid it. I'm not suggesting ani should have run roughshod over J's feelings but he should have not created a scenario where J always saw a man who was cheating her cousin while bending over backwards to care for her. In that scenario of course J will not be able to fully trust Ani.
He never cared that was coming across that way to Jhanak. Where will the trust build up for her to realize the love he claims to have for J. Some times viewers could see he was pretending other times it was not apparent to us as well. For example when she came to take care of him when he was hurt, Ani never let J know he wanted her to be safe. He was pretending to have realized how much Arshi meant to him to keep J in his house. Everytime he took J out for lunch, bank, on return when exposed he would make it seem like he never cared for J. But still J sort of knew Ani was attracted to her and cared for her genuinely thats what kept her going.
Cliched or not J wanted Ani to be open about his affections for her in front of his family. She always suspected he cared for her only and not Arshi - thats why Ani got a looong rope from her; till there came a point when Ani always chose Arshi that she stopped trusting in what she felt and felt betrayed.
Many times J has made it clear to Ani that she loved him; the fact that she came back from Tejas for him (Ani rejected her care for him as he did not believe her flower saved him and stated Arshi's love for him was important to him); she told the man she was marrying Avinash for her love (but Ani seemed fine in marrying her off and told Arshi big bhoj was off his head); Arshi's aashirwaad (Ani CA'd her and compared her to Arshi's loyalty); she went with him to bank and lunch (came back and tore their picture); put patti on her leg at night seemed all loving (same day said fatalistically he could not do anything - next day said he would do that for anyone); took her to doctor, J said she will go away (he thinks darkness will fall on his life ( goes home right after and tells didi he loves her); went out on date told her he cannot imagine life without her seemed like he was standing by her (said he took her out to make her feel good); told him she would never give a gift given to one person to anyone else (her sindoor to Arshi; still Ani was not in a state to commit to only J. J went to Kashmir thinking she can love Ani like many others but Ani did not lover her.
Same Kashmir, she was all in sacrifice mode - till Ani told her he loved her - she slept with him next day - this not anyones fault I guess, Ani only remember she wants him to take care of Arshi and J feels Ani is deceptive - wanting both of them and goes brutal at Ani when he tries to tell J he is doing performance on didi. She has seen Ani always throw their relationship down and minimize it - so she also goes one step further to deny it. Remember the way she kept looking accusingly at him during ghat episodes, when her suhaag nishaanis were being stripped, even during annulment she wanted Ani to not sign while he wanted J to not sign. J was not marrying another person here it was Ani - so it should have been on Ani to stop the annulment and it was moreover his family. Why he wanted J to take the burden of saving their marriage I will never know. He said when they met in Mumbai he knew J had feeligns for him, if he knew that and he knew he loved her, why did he marry Arshi?? He expected J to claim him as his husband in toxic BH while he himself sang songs for Arshi outside and in head said it is for Jhnaak. No one knows whats in his head, he was the son of the house and in a stronger position to make his wishes clear. The inference always for me has been - had Ani taken a firm stand for J without feeling the tie with Arshi to be zimmedhar to his long term relationship, J would have given in. J always used Ani Arshi prior bond because Ani could never convince her that his love for J was strong enough for him to leave Arshi and his family and be with her. She has seen first hand Ani giving all these re-assurances time and again and therefore feels Arshi is also a victim. So time and again she feels sorry for Arshi. If Ani had not jumped to stop Arshi from leaving everytime with ILU or with kamzor dialogs; J would have seen Ani's love for her as pure and non conflicted and agreed to take the plunge.
At least this is how I see it :)
