First of all if you are someone who is still enjoying the characters or this show, do not read this post further. This is not a he or she post, this is just a perception of the narration of the writer..

Armaan - this is probably the most badly written character in this season, who has had no growth since the season started. The character started with taking one wrong decision and since then has followed them with a series of wrong decisions, to put it mildly. The writer constantly tries to narrate a twisted theory every time that the character Armaan who made these decisions is the only, if not the biggest victim of his decisions. Without getting into semantics; with each of his decisions lives have been almost destroyed, yet the writer tries to portray a scenario that the character Armaan is the victim because he cried for a few days regretting his actions?? After every wrong decision of the character, the writer has tried to piggyback on the theory that Armaan’s decisions are due to his gratitude for being accepted by his own family, most importantly being accepted by the stepmom; yet his life-altering decisions should be forgiven because he gets the orphan treatment. After every wrong decisions, the writers have shown in a consistent pattern Armaan cry for a few days, say sorry to who have been affected by his decisions for a few days, and then has expected the others to move on because he apologized or changed his decision. There is absolutely no cognizance of why he keeps taking these wrong decisions or redemption, something in action to show he actually is taking an action to avoid doing the same in future. As a viewer, the biggest annoyance arises from the fact that with every track the writers have only managed to make this character very emotionally weak, sometimes manipulative, and most importantly very unreliable who would only stand by anyone as long as it suits his interests. The writer wants the viewers to believe that a 30+yo adult; a lawyer who’s supposed to be standing up for others; who barring a very few family members otherwise grew up in a safe and loving environment; the only family member who has taken numerous wrong decisions and still be forgiven every single time; who has so much power and control in the firm that he can pause the cases of the clients for a few days; has no control over his actions, is never to be held responsible and is to be sympathized with because he never was fully accepted by the few family members?? The writer tries so hard to deliver a narrative that is so half-baked, that they have burned every character trying to achieve and yet failed, the character Vidya being one of them, who was shown to be a character who was mature enough to separate her issues with her husband and accept his kid and raise him as her own. In fact the writer went to the extent of bringing a character that was shown to be dead until now to validate this character. Is the writer ever going to show any growth in this character, where Armaan is held responsible for his decisions and him alone as any individual should be, rather than finding a scapegoat for every action of his??

Abhira - this is the most destroyed character in this whole season. The writer has been so focused on a character with no progress with a half-baked theory, that the writer has completely forgotten the character Abhira. Abhira is the character that started as someone who had the guts walk out in the middle of the night when her late mother’s dignity was questioned, but now has been reduced to not even being able to defend her honor even when she has some support system now. A character who had the clarity to realize that she had been made a fool by her husband over his past affair for a year and walk out of the relationship despite her feelings, has been reduced to someone who doesn’t even express justified anger, but is happy with just a few moments of proximity from the same husband who publicly humiliated her and stood watching the show. Never before in ITV has there been a FL that has been made to look so helplessly in love that she tolerates her character being questioned, in fact is bending over backwards to explain herself. This is the character that’s supposed to be the link to the previous generations, but let alone connecting she has become a bystander in her own story; a character that has been reduced to the sole purpose of understanding Armaan’s actions and justify them by forgiving him every time. This is the character with numerous potential to explore in the story; her own conflicting feelings towards Armaan despite his constant betrayals, her relationship with an estranged family/brother, her own inability to accept these relationships who abandoned hers mother/destroyed her marriage in a way. The writer has failed this character so much that Abhira is shown as someone habituated to being tolerant of constant betrayals and humiliations. She doesn’t even get to ruminate how she feels about all this, what these relationships even mean to her, or why she even has to justify/pacify everyone for situations that she isn’t responsible for. Recently saw a YouTube video of season1 of the same show where the titular character Akshara questions her otherwise very righteous father as to his double standards in wanting her brother to sacrifice his love just because his sister’s marriage prospects do not get hindered. This was from a character who was very meek, very obedient, very silent and emotional person, who would not even cross the threshold unless her mother gives her permission. Now 4 generations later, the writers have reduced their FL to a character like Abhira, what a pathetic and shameful writing…

Now i am so bored of this show i have no words for anyone. This season has no good characters to root for.so people are picking one better apple in the basket of rotten apples. 🤷‍♀️ i see both leads problematic and all sideys too. But only few characters rectified their mistakes and fixed themselves like kaajal and ruhi. Rest all are beating around the bush ☻️

bugs bunny is standing in front of a door with a sad look on his face .

I am just waiting for all new supernatural shows to start airing or some kalesh in the forum as i need some entertainment 👸

What a writing 💯 on each character . Nothing more to add

I think it also shows how fickle minded and weak a section of female audience are. Just a few tears and they will melt and arman will be husband goals again 😂 even now they are waiting for couple romantic moments cause character growth?? Huh what's that.

Abhira no comments the more her support system grew the doormat she became lol. Her biggest mistake was letting Arman come into her life just after a week of the betrayal. After that's she's living off scraps of affection and hey she's happy who are we to point out. Her mother had extreme pride. She has none.

Imo the decision to bring this gen in itself was very hasty and not well thought through.. They haphazardly decided to copy one of the most crapiest shows - ghum and when desired trp didn’t come they started copying tracks of gen 2 without any logic.. Some tracks worked back then doesn’t mean they’ll work now.. Shivin had terrific chemistry so even nonsensical tracks worked. Abhimaan no offence doesn’t have it.., At least og Abhimaan looked cute, new one is beyond bland.. Like what was the point of college track? Just trip and fall of leads?

So when you randomly copy without using brain, you can’t expect consistency of traits from the characters.. And not just leads even sideys also flip according to the current track.. Vidya is Mother India in one track and suddenly starts giving shraap in the another..

Your point on Abheera makes so much sense.. The more support she got, the more doormat she became.. I always said this they should’ve gone for a leap of at least 1 year post Ruhaan revelation.. When she went back within a week and accepted him things started going downhill., From that track every time Ar does some nonsense or his family humiliates Ab, he sheds two tears and she forgives him throwing her self respect in the bin

The character assessments are spot on! I'll admit, I never really considered YRKKH worth watching—it always seemed like just another typical saas-bahu drama, much like most Star Plus shows. However, a friend of mine was deeply invested in NavRa, and through her, I started watching Gen 3, which eventually led me to Gen 4. Curious, I went back and watched Gen 2 a few days ago, along with the AbhiRa parts of Gen 3.

While YRKKH has always had its share of ridiculous plots, what made Gen 2 stand out was its undeniable charm. Despite the flaws, the storytelling had a certain magic—whether it was the cinematography, the chemistry between the leads, or the way even the most over-the-top storylines felt cohesive. There was an emotional depth that made you care for the characters, even when they frustrated you.

One of the most underrated yet crucial aspects was the music. As the generations progressed, the background score and original songs only got better. The music became the heartbeat of the love stories, creating an instant connection between the couples and the audience. Whether it was Kaira’s "Yaha Waha Hai Tu", "Ek Duje Ke", or AbhiRa’s "Janiye" moments, the music elevated the emotional impact. It wasn’t just an add-on—it was an extension of the love stories themselves, making even flawed arcs feel unforgettable.

It’s not like the other generations were flawless. For example, Naira constantly running away from her problems, Kartik playing the victim, and Naira forgiving him too easily—even when he was clearly in the wrong (a pattern that later repeated with Abhira)—these were flawed character arcs, yet they never felt entirely out of place. Let's not talk about Gen 3, that's a mess I don't wanna deal with. The emotional beats were handled well, and the show maintained a certain consistency that made even its most outrageous twists feel organic. The chemistry between the leads, the aesthetics, and the strong character dynamics (even the supporting cast) made Gen 2 memorable.

Unfortunately, they never seemed to learn from past mistakes, and as the show evolved, it lost that spark that once made even its most unbelievable stories feel compelling.

IMO the show kinda lost its spark right after Akshara died. It became unbearable to watch after KaiRa's wedding. YRKKH has long outlived its prime.

I really like your analysis..because many of us feel the same way and that is exactly what the writers are showing us. At the current time..I would tell abhira to give up on Armaan and move on..because Armaan is not good for her. A weak man who can’t stand up for himself can never be a support system for others. Because you need to sort out your own demons first before you have the strength to support someone else. But knowing rishta..they have given the previous 2 lead couples failed relationships..Gen 2 couple due to their own immaturity and issues weren’t able to deal with their marital issues,,but the hero after maturing had a successful marriage with his second wife that he failed to achieve with the first. Gen 3 couple were incompatible and the heroine found deep love and stability with her second husband and they would have remained together had death not separated them..and now this Gen 4 couple can’t make their marriage work because the hero..has his own insecurities that prevents him from putting his wife and marriage first ..I don’t know if they’ll keep Armaan this way or we’ll see him change and become worthy of abhira. If he doesn’t change ..then abhira would have been one of those women who wasted her life on a man that wasn’t able to,give her what she deserved. Sadly Gen 4 couple have lost their charm due to this.🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree with you 💯. I started watching be upset of abhira. And now they have turned her into door.at . And I just hate the fact they make armaan look like the victim each time even though whenever they want they destroy the character. I really like armaan's character but they have destroyed bit making him look like a jerk, insensitive person. They Hage completely destroyed the essence of the story the story which was earlier about emotions, relationships, now they have made it toxic.

I agree with each and every word you have written. Both Arman and Bhira are too pathetic and unrelatable to root for.

Sad as it is to say, itv MLs fighting their demons, trauma or whatever the latest-word-in-trend is and in the process destroying FL’s life isn’t new to itv. In fact itv FLs playing therapist to these troubled souls isn’t new either, which would have been a more apt job description for itv FLs rather than whatever fancy ambition they start with only to never think about once marriage with the ML happens. The difference here is none of these previous ML characters were shown as victims after their actions. The reason a character like ASR became so popular is because the writer at no point showed his actions to be right or even justify it. The writer made it very clear that he was wrong and his actions were his alone, which is why audience could connect to the character when the character gradually changed. The writers made characters like ASR own up to it unapologetically, didn’t make them play victim hiding behind their childhood. It was the audience who wanted to understand why the character behaved in such a way when he is aware he is wrong, that’s what made these characters interesting. An otherwise docile character like Khushi worked with a dominant character like ASR because she held him responsible for his actions. Despite knowing his backstory, for the most part the character Khushi stood up to him and questioned his behavior towards her, that’s what made her strong in that relationship.

Now your dp, love that show. Avni, this was one character who truly was haunted by her past. This was one show where the decisions the character Avni took made perfect sense because she craved for a family her whole life, barring hiding the child which was actually a haphazard track by the writer. She genuinely wanted to get accepted in the society and have a family of her own. It made complete sense due to being rejected by her own father/family and the ordeals she and her mom went thru because of that. Avni was also a character who wanted to be accepted by her husband’s mom, but when she realized that may not happen she didn’t try bend over backwards to be accepted, instead was realistic enough to stay in her zone and stood up to her when her MIL crossed the line. Neil Khanna probably is the last decent ML star has produced. This is what a strong character looks like, who stood by his counterpart every time, but also held Avni accountable for her actions whenever she took a wrong decision and tried to guide as well.

Armaan on the other hand is always shown as a victim of his childhood, which led him to making these wrong decisions. Abhira on the other hand has become a character with no personality or feelings of her own. It’s so hard to connect to the character Abhira when she asks a subservient lady like Kajal to stand up for her daughter against her husband, when she herself doesn’t have awareness that she needs to do the same. Sometimes it feels like the writer is scared to show an actual scene where Abhira calls out Armaan for how he has treated her, for fear of the ML getting rejected by the audience. Yet the writer is utterly determined to show no growth in this character and makes him the ultimate victim every time. Imagine they made him a victim because he couldn’t be a father, just when the FL was humiliated for not being able to give child; that was one unbelievable twisted writing.
