Director Apoorva Lakhia, who worked with Amitabh Bachchan on the film Ek Ajnabee, recalled taking the veteran actor to a strip club in Bangkok. Apoorva mentioned that Amitabh Bachchan didn’t sleep much and always wanted to make plans after the shoot. As such, he once went to a strip club in Bangkok for a live show.
In a conversation with Friday Talkies, Apoorva recalled Amitabh Bachchan asking to show him around Bangkok. “I said, ‘Sir, this is Patpong, there are live shows here, if I take you, there will be riots. He said, ‘No, we will go’. So, I said let’s go," he recalled. Apoorva then took Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Vikram Chatwal, Perizaad Zorabian and Bunty Walia to a red-light district in Bangkok. “Amit ji was wearing a shirt which was buttoned down (almost the whole way) and he was wearing a Thai dhoti-like thing," he said.
Apoorva mentioned, “He is walking in Patpong and we are going to this place called Exotic Pu**y, which was the name of the club where all these shows happen. And Amit ji had never seen such a show. So imagine, we went with Amit ji for the show, and the Indians there went crazy. He was walking as if he was in Juhu." He recalled that Amitabh Bachchan called the show “mind-blowing" and they came back at around 2:30-3 in the morning.
The director also highlighted Amitabh’s friendly nature and said that the actor would often organise film screenings for the crew. “He would say, ‘Let’s rent a cinema and I will call Yash (Chopra), and I’ll ask him to send Bunty Aur Babli’. He would call up Yash Chopra, Bunty Aur Babli’s reel would come and the whole unit would go and watch Bunty Aur Babli… I used to go to sleep on those recliners. But this used to happen every day," he said.
