This movie is a remake of the Great Indian Kitchen
I watched the film and I got to say - this is how remakes should be done. They didn't just lift frame-by-frame and dialogue-by-dialogue. They took the general concept and adapted to it the audience they were targeting.
I agree that the climax seemed a bit rushed and left a lot open to interpretation, but it also reflects society properly. No one is going to have a major epiphany. It's the old adage, ek gayi toh dusri aayegi, and unfortunately you will always find someone willing to wipe their own identity to become a shadow of their husband.
Sanya is a great actress! It's sad that she still hasn't found her due place in theatre movies, but maybe if enough people admire her work, she'll finally find herself getting better films.
I have no freaking idea why Sanya doesn’t get more opportunities. While I like Alia really, when I see actors like Sanya being a victim of the system that she launched, I cant help but feel hatred for her.
Sanya is beautiful, talented, good dancer. She should be hyped more, much more actually.
Hope she gets more chances.
P.S. - The last scene on that family was nerve-jerking. Really nothing changes. People don’t even get confronted. You just have to move on. I have this cousin sister in my family whose wedding was almost finalized, the boy was in the USA, and the only demand my sister had was to MEET the guy once before marriage. The groom’s family didn’t take it seriously despite repeatedly being told of the same. And when my uncle-aunt refused to book the marriage hall even a month before until this one condition is met, the boy’s father literally said that well he had already booked the hall, so he will definitely get his son married on the same day, same place, if not to my sister, to another girl then.
I was like eff you go get another girl.
Well something that’s important to my sister, might not be important to the other. But what is alarming is was to misguide a group of people thinking the bride’s family would be helpless in the end and will succumb to the pressure !
It’s the attitude towards the bride’s family that matters.
On the contrary, a bride’s family usually tries to kill themselves to keep up with the words they had committed to the groom’s family. This power balance has to change.
Watched a bollywood movie after years. Sanya never disappoints. And somewhere I am guilty for liking the fact that she's doing such wholesome movies instead of the mainstream trash. I love such family centric movies. They seem very simple to the eyes but leave a huge impact on the minds of the audience. I haven't watched the original so I cannot comment on how good of a remake this is but it is a good watch. There wasn't a point where I was bored cause' I was constantly waiting for the climax
.
(SPOILERS BELOW::)
Things that I love the most about the movie are:
1. The cast is a 10/10.
2. No over exaggeration of the issues. I love how the director decided to keep the tone subtle and didn't make the FL the only Mahatma who had the courage to pull out a public show. I love how she just got rid of the toxic marriage and moved on in life. This is what happens in reality. And I'm glad they went that way.
Will give it a go for Sanya although the plot look similar to TGIC
Seems to be a good film, but not a good commercial film. Will wait for OTT.

It released in OTT only, not in theatres.
Is it on Zee platform only?
