Its basically a thesis on true love...lekin romance nahi hai yaha pei that's the main issue. Romance IMO is there but not a very straightforward romance.

If you look at the story from characters perspective, than I dont think its bad..but if you take the entire story on face value its definitely absurd and illogical.

This kind of stories doesn't work in today's era where everyone is more invested in romance than the journey of the characters .

Out of all the characters, only Bilal has truly loved Sadaf..so much that his love has so much power that it can make Sadaf fall deeper for him even if they are not together. Ammar knew this deep inside, that's why he was always insecured...his extramarital affair and abuse stemmed from his deeper lying insecurities.

Right from Bilal being a womanizer to Sadaf wanting to date BA during iddat period...all these things make the characters very greyish..if you want to enjoy and understand SMD's crux, than I think religion thing has to be removed from everyone's mind..and this is not possible ..!!

Yeah I noticed that too. Although Bilal being a womanizer and drinking alcohol has always been shown as wrong. The way male and female friends interact in this isn’t Islamic either. In fact any “dating” that is shown in dramas isn’t technically okay either. You shouldn’t be alone with a non-mehram.

I was ready, actually I think a lot of us were prepared for this to be controversial. Personally I’m okay with it. I remember having discussions before this was released if this was going to be like a KANK. If Ammar was a totally nice guy and Sadaf was cheating on him then I would have a problem. That’s not what’s happening here. I’m ok with some things being controversial.

All that being said, I don’t know if they are being nonchalant about the iddat period. The mom asking Sadaf is she believes in religion and her covering her head and not meeting Bilal indicated that she was talking about the iddat period. Also her telling Bilal to call Sadaf rather than meeting her in person. I think Sadaf covers her hair at the end for the same reason. Maybe they will try but will be drawn to each other. Personally it won’t bother me but I hope the show doesn’t try to make them out to be the villains and Ammar the victim.

they have not shown any islamically wrong thing in positive light in SMD.

important islamic rules can't be removed from ptv shows. if they violate those rules, they are always shown in negative way. pretty sure they are not showing dating in a good light. otherwise, sadaf's mother wouldn't have stopped both of them.

you can see this is the first time any character talked about religion in this show. it signifies what place iddah holds islamically.

@bold: they are gonna end up doing this only. then fans will understand what has KRQ actually done.

Sadaf is already looking cruel and sadistic in the precap. No need to gloat about having dinner with Bilal to a guy who is no longer part of your life.

ammar-dania wasn't right anyway. but look how KRQ is emphasizing ammar should be forgiven. only then it will be equal to what sadaf is doing. it signifies sadaf isn't right either.

A story about love and a love story are two separate genres.

The script snd characterization were very weak but even worse was the treatment and performances which were tonally so inconsistent with the story in the script.

Alif was a thesis about love. Shehr e Zaat was a thesis about love. Maybe they were not big hits (but neither is SMD) but they got massive critical appreciation and are cult classics. In the past PTV has made many shows about interior lives, psychological insecurities, and emotional trajectories of complex characters. Critics lap these up. But the tone of these shows is so unlike SMD. Those are almost executed as character studies. The mood is contemplative. Performances are natural and authentic. Execution is restrained. The focus is on communicating character emotional states and arcs with utmost integrity and sincerity through direction and performance. In dramas like this, there are no hero entry scenes, no imaginary dances, no ramp walks, no beauty shots, no zabardasti ka romance and eyelocks, no overacting and screeching, no zabardasti ka bgm, no flimsy nighties and cringe intimacies, no expensive shaadi sets and dances. Authenticity is absolutely critical in these type of shows if stories and emotions have to connect.

The team tried to make a Mutton biryani when they only had ingredients for Gobi Manchurian. This shows, it's execution and performances reeks of insincerity and lack of authenticity. That's why nothing hits or connects.

I have discussed this earlier hypno..that the flaws and absurdities are so high that the impact of the story gets diluted..they wanted to give it a mass appeal that's why zabardasti ka romanticization is there..these kind of stories can never have mass appeal seriously they should understand that..the execution and treatment had to be so different.

I feel even today's promo was supposed to be high on emotions but the way Sadaf says "so poetic" was so unnecessary smiley44

Mirza Saab spoke about religion before. He prayed for forgiveness for Bilal because he drinks. Bilal asked to be notified during maghrib time, not because he’s going to pray but to be respectful around this time. I don’t consider dramas Islamic anyway…there are things that are shown in dramas not in line with Islam, they just get overlooked. I just take it as one of those things but I’m not sure the show is doing that.
