Black Warrant Season 1 Review

I was a bit apprehensive at first after seeing the trailer...but then I read about the reviews and decided I had to watch it and I am glad that I wasn't disappointed.

Black Warrant has its funny moments, it has its light moments, but most of all it is a realistic representation of jail, the politics, the games, and the life. 3 freshies are thrown under the bus (figuratively speaking). They learn to trust each other but also not to trust each other. And they learn the inner workings of jails and gangs.

For me, the acting was top class and guess what - we got a nepo kid who can act! Zahaan Kapoor, aka Sunil Kumar Gupta, the lead of the series is part of the illustrious Kapoor khandaan and he knows how to act! Of course, we have some other good acting for actors such as Rahul Bhat, Sidhant Gupta, Paramvir Singh Cheema, and Anurag Thakur, but I guess nepo kids get their own section.

The series was well-written. Both binge-worthy, but also it gets kind of dark so I didn't binge watch it in one day. I had to pace it out over 3 days. And given that it's about real situations from the 1980s, it's easy to check most of the details and learn even more about them.

I'll be waiting for season 2. I very much enjoyed season 1.

Lol it's real cause it ain't be made filmy with fake friendships, lots of bhaichara, and no issues.

Iss logic ke hisaab se toh 90% movies flop honi chahiye.

It was such a satisfying watch Its just the way they made this whole premise so palatable..there is light in all that darkness..! IMO i liked it a lot more than Sacred Games and its one of the finest OTT watches to date.

Zahaan was a delight to watch as apna pyaara Sunil, who has come with good intentions and finds roadblocks all along the way and yet comes into his own by the end of the show. The fact that all of this is actually true - ie Charles helping Sunil get the job and the jail ka khana bit and so many other things peppered across the show, just makes it so much more amusing and entertaining! I dont know if only I saw it, but he literally has Shashi's voice modulation..and his eyes are so honest and ernest. That outburst in front of bhai ka rishta waley folks was so measured and perfect..all that theatre experience has made Zahaan so good! I dont care for nepo/ non-nepo if this is the kind of performance they deliver.

Sidhanth as Charles Sobhraj was just sexy, charming and that accent..! I want to protect this guy from commercialization ie what happened to Tripti Dimri..should not happen to him..I thought Tripti deserves to be that commercial heroine..but we lost a diamond in search of gold..she will only be remembered for her scenes in Animal as opposed to Bulbul and Qala..and Sidhanth has shown such variation as Nehru, Jay and now Charles! WOW! Looks+charm+good actor!

Rahul Bhatt as Tomar was so dashing and smooth as well..he is an antagonist through and through and yet I dont fully hate his character..why DONT WE SEE HIM MORE! The mannerisms, those subtle expressions..his stance and body language was just BRILLIANT!

I loved Mangat as well..he had such a quiet grace on screen! Good to know he is now in Border 2 as well

I am not sure why everyone is going all Dahiya was great and all..I cant stand too hairy men so I guess I dont see it..sure Anurag was good..but the above were amazing for me.

I already see stupid comments on how Black Warrant is overrated..anything that becomes popular..just suddenly becomes overrated..I hope more people watch this show actually, barring the cuss words..which is one too many, but then this is based on Tihar Jail..you cant expect poetry and sophistication there..so cant fault that.

This show was raw and authentic without exaggeration or rose-tinted glasses. All the actors, including Zahan, Sidharth, and Joy, did great acting.

The show had some distressing scenes like capital punishment and suicide.

Did Sunil not want to do anything about the 2 men saying they weren't involved in the rape and murder apart from legal aid? Though unlikely what if one was not involved in rape/ murder
