Watermelon looked tempting when I first saw it, and so did many sweets. I went ahead with watermelon, holding my breath even though I didn't like the smell and regretted it immediately. I do not have issues with the smell of sweets and can enjoy many, but if it's too sweet, I get overwhelmed. Growing up like that, you will learn not to fall for the presentation of food. I always check the ingredients, but I got humbled with mint chocolate. I thought I can eat mint and love milk chocolate, so what could go wrong? It's a bit frustrating. As I mentioned in the comment, having a partner who can try and eat everything and also guess my food preference is the best deal of my life. If he is not with me, I won't try new food. I don't get tired of having the same food I love everyday. We are infamous for ordering the same thing every time.
Now, If I didn't like the smell, I wouldn't try it. If the taste is intense, I can still swallow but won't take another bite. Since the chances of colon cancer are high, I try to eat vegetables which I can tolerate by using recipes that neutralise the smell and taste or by mixing them with big portions of food I love, gravies, sauces, or yoghurt. It's like having medicine you hate, but multiple portions at one time.
