National Anthem at a Christmas celebration in a church: There is no denying that in India, religion/sprituality & politics/national expression are intertwined. (contrary to the constitution, I think...)

Why would they sing the national anthem at any place of worship ? Regardless of whether it's a church or a temple. That's not what those places are for. I wouldn't want the temple priest to break into Vande Mataram when I'm there for the evening aarti.

Yeah sadly this has been happening a lot lately. Minorities feel obligated to suck up to avoid being targets. I was at the Ramakrishna Math last evening.. Every Christmas they put up a tree ,for the sake of Christian/foreign devotees. This year there isn't one. Thanks to the current President who is big on ' Hindutva'. I used to know this Swamiji before he became a monk. We used to love him as kids, he was the most reasonable ,friendly person around. This was one organisation that mostly kept away from this nonsense to it's sad to see things are changing there too.
