Gautam Gambhir must be a relieved man! There was a lot of off-field noise after India lost to New Zealand at home. People questioned his moves. People questioned his place. He showed faith in Nitish Reddy over the other all-rounders who have travelled overseas before. At a tough venue the team managed to stun everyone when no one gave them an edge. Surely no one expected India to be this dominant!

We are so used to seeing Bumrah do extraordinary things that this performance from him isn't a surprise anymore. Even so, it's hard not to be in complete awe of the man who is quite simply the greatest bowler in the world. Accuracy, high pace, movement, cricket-smarts, deception, you name it. At certain points during this Test, his career bowling average dipped below 20, which is almost unheard of after playing these many Tests. Despite all the analysis, despite all the scrutiny, he keeps getting better. What a privilege it is to watch him do his thing and weave his magic across the globe. And what a nightmare it must be to face him as a batter.

BGT is off to a flier. The Aussies are under serious pressure. Their batting unit is in the firing line and spots are being questioned but you never count them out. They accept failures up front and acceptance is the key to change. They are known to be tough. India will have their captain back. Gill's fitness will be tested. You never know, Mohammed Shami could join the team as well. Both teams get a well earned rest while India have a practice match inbetween. Adelaide, Pink Ball is already promising. Can't wait for December 6.

Ravi Shastri asked Jasprit Bumrah at the toss if early moisture in the pitch was a concern. Bumrah's answer was "We played a Test match here in 2018, so we know what to expect. The wicket gets quicker." Cummins said he was 50-50, but Bumrah and the Indian think tank were spot on with the pitch reading. They took a bold call of batting on a tacky pitch first because they knew they had the bowling to trouble Australia with the ball and make use of better batting conditions in the second innings. Despite only 150 on the board, Bumrah single-handedly destroyed Australia on that first evening which left them reeling and so far behind the game. If not for that spell, things could have been different as batting got significantly easier on Day 2.
