Chapter 5 -

The days that followed the night they had shared were a blur of conflicting emotions. Geet kept to herself most of the time, trying to suppress the overwhelming feelings she had for Maan. Despite his coldness and the fact that he had made it clear this was just a fleeting arrangement, she couldn’t help herself. She found herself drawn to him - his presence, his quiet confidence, the way he could make her feel both invisible and intensely seen at the same time.

She had convinced herself it was just physical attraction at first, that it was merely the culmination of their agreement, but now, as the days passed, she knew it was more than that.

Maan, however, was a different story. The agreement was for one night, but it didn't go like that. Geet kept coming as Maan wished.

He remained distant - unreadable, detached - as always. He had never given her any indication that he wanted more than what was already between them, but there were moments - tiny, fleeting moments - when his eyes would linger on her just a little longer, his touch a little gentler.

But those moments were rare, and Geet knew better than to read too much into them. Maan was a man of control, a man who didn’t let emotions get in the way of his plans or desires.

Still, the cold distance between them made the silence unbearable. Geet often found herself staring at him when he wasn’t looking, lost in the way his strong jawline seemed to soften when he spoke, the quiet authority in his voice, the way his lips curled into a slight smile when he was absorbed in his thoughts.

But Maan didn’t look at her the same way.

He would acknowledge her when necessary, but it was always brief - never more than a passing glance, a quick word, a nod. He had made it clear: he didn’t want complications.

One evening, Geet found herself in the large, empty living room once again, her gaze drifting over the space that had become both a sanctuary and a prison. The house was still...eerily still...without the bustle of servants or any distraction. Maan was in his study, buried in work as usual.

But tonight, she was tired of being the silent observer.

She needed something - anything - more than this cold distance. She needed to know that she wasn’t just an afterthought to him. That maybe, just maybe, he cared.

The sound of footsteps broke her from her thoughts. She turned quickly, her heart leaping into her throat when she saw Maan standing in the doorway.

He didn’t speak immediately, just watched her with his usual unreadable expression. But for once, there was no business suit, no papers in his hands...just him. Just Maan.

“Geet,” he finally said, his voice low. “You seem lost in thought.”

Geet looked up at him, her heart pounding. “I was just... thinking,” she replied, her voice quiet. “About everything.”

Maan took a step closer, his gaze never leaving hers. “What’s on your mind?”

For a moment, she hesitated. It wasn’t like her to let her emotions get the better of her, but tonight, she was too tired of holding them in.

“I don’t understand you, Maan,” she said, her voice catching slightly. “You asked me to stay, but then you keep pushing me away. You... you don’t even look at me the way you did that night.”

There it was. The words she had been holding in for days.

Maan stood silent, his face still, the only sign of his inner thoughts the faint clenching of his jaw. Geet could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating.

“What did you expect, Geet?” he asked after a long pause, his tone sharper than usual. “You agreed to this. You knew what it would be. No promises, no emotions. Just... one night.”

“I know,” she whispered, her eyes dropping to the floor. “But it’s hard. I’m not like you, Maan. I can’t pretend that I don’t feel something when I’m with you. And maybe you can keep everything locked away, but I can’t. I... I want more. I want you.”

The silence stretched between them, heavy and thick. Geet could hear the sound of her heartbeat in her ears, and for a second, she feared she had said too much.

Maan’s eyes narrowed slightly, and for a moment, she thought he would lash out, tell her she was foolish for even thinking that way.

But instead, he took another step toward her, his expression unreadable.

“You think I want more, Geet?” His voice was quieter now, as if he was speaking more to himself than to her. “You think I don’t feel the same?”

Geet’s breath hitched. Had she misread him all this time? Was there something...anything - that could change the distance between them?

But Maan wasn’t finished.

“I don’t know what I feel,” he continued, his eyes darkening as he looked at her. “I don’t know what I want. All I know is that I’ve never needed anyone, not like this. And you...” He stopped, his throat tightening as he tried to find the right words. “You’ve made me question everything. But I won’t say that it’s love. Not yet. I don’t even know what that feels like.”

Geet’s heart raced at his confession, though it wasn’t exactly what she had hoped for. But hearing him say it...admit that he didn’t know, that she had somehow affected him...it was enough.

“Then what do you want from me, Maan?” she whispered, her voice barely a breath. “Because right now, I don’t know if I can keep doing this if it’s just... nothing.”

Maan’s gaze softened, the hardness in his eyes slowly melting away. He stepped closer, closing the distance between them, his presence filling her senses.

“I don’t know what I want either, Geet,” he murmured, his voice low, almost vulnerable. “But I don’t want you to leave. Not yet.”

Geet’s breath caught as he reached out, his hand grazing the side of her face with surprising tenderness. The touch was gentle, almost tentative, as if he was testing the waters...unsure, but wanting.

“I’m not asking for anything,” he continued, his thumb brushing her lower lip. “But I can’t let you go either.”

For the first time since they had met, Geet saw something raw in his eyes...a flicker of uncertainty, of need. And it scared her.

She had fallen for him, heart and soul. But if Maan couldn’t let himself fall, where did that leave her?

Hi, nice chapter dear, geet is falling for Maan but geet think that it is one night stand, geet can't go away from him, Maan also don't want to let her go, geet open her heart in front of Maan that she have feelings for him, Maan also confess that he also feel something for her but he can't said it is love.
