In Indian television, showing women as jealous or petty is a frustrating stereotype that has been around for too long.

Characters like Ruhi(no matter how much I don't like her), who show jealousy toward a baby without any real reason, seem unrealistic and only add to the idea that women are naturally jealous.

This kind of portrayal makes female characters look shallow and one-sided. It’s strange that while men in similar situations are shown as mature or even friendly(taboo generation even ex and current were best friends), women are shown as unable to have healthy, supportive relationships with other women—even their own sisters.

(Seerat never faced naira lol)

This outdated idea ignores the reality that women often share strong, positive bonds and support each other, especially within families. By always showing women as rivals instead of friends, TV misses a chance to show how strong women’s relationships can be. Society deserves more real and balanced portrayals, not these old stereotypes.

I don't think it's about stereotyping women as jealous or petty. Ruhi is shown as jealous and petty; she just happens to be a women. Phufasa, Manoj chachu, Rohit (to an extent, with Armaan when he came back home) were all shown as jealous and petty at some point.

The character Ruhi is a parallel lead and is grey by design. So, she is shown exhibiting these characteristics most of the time. The character Abhira is designed to be positive most of the time and she happens to be a women too.

Also, TV serials are a female-centric medium. Thus, majority of the time, both positive and negative characters seem to be women. It's the opposite in movies. There the negative characters are mostly men.
