(part 2)

Another mismatched relationship is Shah and Amal and it was nice to see how Amal standing up for herself here just backfires. Instead of coming across as independent, he sees her as bratty, someone who dismisses his feelings and wants to play games. Because she is truly not tested by life, her stating her wants simply comes across as self-centered and that is what he picks up on.

At the same time, Shah is perennially busy and even before marriage, has no time for her. So Amal is already getting frustrated with being emotionally neglected and not having his attention the way she wants.

In some ways, both Rafay and Amal have set perceptions of love which is why it is messing with their heads. They are not going with the real personalities of Shah and Mehru. Shah will always prioritize working and will not necessarily have time. Demanding his time will only reduce Amal in his eyes. He prioritizes those he respects. That is what Amal does not really get.

I find it interesting that both Amal and Rafay don't get their partners despite knowing them all their lives. They want romance in a set way rather than adapting to their partner's personality. So even if Mehru and Shah never met, neither Amal or Rafay would have been happy in their marriages with Shah and Mehru. It would have been filled with constant conflicts because Shah and Mehru would always be failing expectations.

End of the day, it is arranged marriage for Shah. He isn't in love with Amal. He is used to her but he doesn't necessarily like or respect her.

(part 3)

I was not having much expectation for a real romance and was genuinely expecting something half-baked and the usual just physical attraction types. So I am surprised that we are potentially getting something that makes sense and we are starting to see why these characters actually do fit together. smiley42

We can see why he is genuinely attracted to Mehru who does not expect anything out of him, is independent, can take care of herself and is unafraid out of necessity.

It is nice to see this kind of admiration for a character who refuses to act bechari. In Shah's eyes, Mehru is someone who is worthy because she does not fit into the bechari stereotype. Not all men want bechari women. For some, bechari women are frustrating, annoying and just a pain to handle.

He also grew up with a very powerful personality of a mother and so his baseline for what interesting womanhood is far different. He respects brain, quick wit and independence. So respect here is the real base of attraction.

With Mehru, we see the first stirrings of attraction where she has finally noticed him. So far, his attempts to grab her attention were brushed off and she was suspicious. However, him helping her when her mother was sick is what melts her.

She has always been open about how she is independent because she has no choice. Someone stepping in and being dominant in that moment meant she didn't have the burden of taking care of the finances and hospital. By only visiting the employee and not hovering constantly, he also respected her boundaries.

He allowed her to be independent but helped where she needed. That is the type of partner she needs which is why he has made an impression. She needs emotional support but not someone who curtails her or expects her to act a certain way.

With him, she is allowed to be herself unapologetically which means she gets to use her assets of brains, wit and independence. She does not need to be rescued but just needs support. So there is a distinction which other people don't get but Shah has understood about her.

In a way, can see why she melted. For the first time in years, someone wasn't trying to dominate her and ask her for samosas, chai or kebab. She didn't have to bow her head down or make excuses for her children. She didn't have to wring her dupatta unsure of how to handle these relatives who are constantly putting her down. Instead, she got to sit and bask in his attention. wah! smiley2

If she had someone from her maayika we'd probably see her bragging about it proudly that how such a big man came to visit her and spoke to her so respectfully

GIRL this is soo well articulated. I agree with each and every line and also with the parts about their respective partners. With him Mehru is allowed to be her ownself and Shah has his own personality and he is not just hovering around her , which also seems impressive. YOU POINTED OUT EVERYTHING SOO WELL.

Shahnawaz was not going to give time and still he demands her to drop her plans, I mean why? The dude is sooo bored whole being around her as if he would accurately count every breath he takes or he might simply look at his watch to get rid of her company ASAP! He should have been happy she's not around for a few days! What was that nakhra of him forsmiley39

hahahah.. Even Amal was surprised. Think it is because she is coming across as flighty and bratty without direction. If she had gone for a job conference per se, then he would have respectfully bowed when she asked him to shut it. Instead, she asked him to hang around a bunch of girls so that he can be the camera boy and help them with their selfies. Hence, the eye roll. smiley36 What was hilarious is that he wasn't even upset enough to mope around in the house and complain to Amal's parents. Instead, he was off to Mehru for tea.

I think its more about control for him, the minute he can't control the situation/person, it bothers him. Funnily enough if Amal would grown a spine much earlier, she might have intrigued Shahnawaz.

Was surprised that Shah hasn't gotten the taste of these famous kebabs yet. The fellow didn't even get to have the tea before he was kicked out. smiley2

Aftab is on a whole new diet plan. Offer him roti, and he’ll insist on paratha, claiming he can’t digest roti because, obviously, a paratha loaded with oil is so much easier on the digestive system. Translation: “I’m a bhukhad”

They say they don’t have money for Muskan’s fees, and Feroze keeps whining about supporting two families. Yet, every day, Aftab and Rafey show up like VIPs, ordering fried kebabs as if they own the place. They should just rename the house “Kebab Central” and start charging these two per kebab, maybe that’ll finally end the freeloading.

I just hope Shah doesn’t jump on this kebab madness and start showing up every day for his own kebab meal. If he does, they’ll need to set up a full kebab buffet just to keep everyone happy.smiley36
