since you asked, i think you are someone who pays a little tax and then feels entitled to telling the rich to pay more because of your socialist bent. And statistically speaking, I would not be wrong. Socialism seldom creates wealth and high-wage earners. It does a lousy job even redistributing wealth.
You can believe what pleases you

You think we do not need caste based reservation even though there is caste based atrocities
Caste-based crimes should be addressed through legal frameworks and law enforcement mechanisms, as they currently are. They already have a legislation called the Prevention of Atrocities act (1989) aimed at preventing and punishing atrocities against members of SC/ST.
I don't see why affluent SC/ST members who are doing well should be given an opportunity to participate in reservations hence my support for only need based criteria.
Not happiest because there are other things I wish happens in India but yes surely will be happy if billionaires are taxed more![]()
EDIT : and that money goes into building educational institutes/hospitals/used for betterment of country.
take ambanis and adanis as example. I think they are quite miserly in their philanthropy, so at a personal level I would be critical of them for that. But on the other hand, would it be smart to tax them more? Let's analyze that-
1. we tax adanis and ambanis more, and use the tax money to build facilities for reservation types;
2. adanis and ambanis use their money to build new businesses, hire workers
I think second has far higher multiplier benefits. That's why socialism results in low growth rates that keep people impoverished for generations. Ironically it screws the very poor you are wanting to help...
Even China started growing fast when it turned capitalistic. That's been true for the Far East countries too.
Some billionaires do game the system in terms of not paying taxes; no one avoided paying taxes as much as Buffet for instance. Bezos in 2011 paid no taxes while claiming and receiving $4000 tax credit for his children, even when his wealth at that time was roughly $18 billion. Soros (yeah, that freaking guy!) paid no federal income tax for three years in a row!
We need some kind of tax reforms to tax the ultra rich based on a true tax rate but I don't know what's a fair way to do that. The wealth gap between the stinking rich and the poor that we have in several countries should also be bridged, in a fair manner, again I don't know how.

We still have caste based atrocities even when there is law. Reservation is also to remove the stigma. We still have families who would not drink from same glass as a lower caste person. This stigma can only be removed over time by letting SC/ST people be educated and be in good positions. This is not something which will change overnight but it is really something which should change.
@bold This is done basically because if you are from upper caste, you generally have generational wealth which the SC/ST generally does not have. They couldn't get into any high positions few generations back. This means that the high positions were already taken by upper caste and they hold the generational wealth and recognition. For example: If you have a family member who is a doctor three generations back, the possibility of the next generation getting into good position is higher because of the social recognition and also wealth. But with SC/ST, three generation back they might not be well educated. But two generation back they earned money by struggling and now they are doing well. This still doesn't mean they are free from societal stigma. They still face caste based atrocities. This is why reservation is given to sc/st even when they are doing well.
