Krishna Mohini TS: Life Ahead

Part-1: Innocent

Mohan scratched his head in irritation. His class test was in two days, and he still had lots to study. He still had to complete the biology assignment (which was due tomorrow). There were so many diagrams he had to draw. It was all his fault. He was so distracted by "Mohini's" dance classes.

He hit his head in frustration with his biology textbook.

"Mohan!!" Krishna entered the room. "Books are Devi Saraswati's blessings. You should not do that."

"Sorry, Didi," Mohan apologized. Krishna smiled at him.

"What is it? Why are you so stressed?"

"See Didi... I have a test on the day after tomorrow, and I have this much to complete." Mohan said, shuffling through his textbook pages. "And tomorrow, I have to submit the biology assignment."

"That's it?" Krishna ran her hand through her brother's hair. "I'll help you complete your assignment."

"Didi... you just came back. You must be super tired after juggling three... no wait... four jobs."

"Don't be silly. I'll freshen up super fast and come to help you. You study till then."

Mohan was irritated. It's already been three months since they came to Mumbai, and nothing has changed from what it was in Dwaraka. Krishna-Didi still worked tirelessly for him. And he couldn't do anything to reduce her burden.

After arriving in Mumbai, Krishna Didi found a job at a clothing factory within the first week. The pay was decent, but she only had one day off, which was on Sundays. After a few days, she also started giving music lessons to some kids near the factory. She had to wake up early to start the classes before the students' school hours.

After about a month and a half of commuting on crowded local trains, Didi sold her scooter in Dwaraka to Shailesh Bhai. Ratna-bhabhi helped her convince Shailesh Bhai. Although Shailesh bhai gave her much less money than expected, Didi didn't complain. With that money, she bought a second-hand scooter and now works as a part-time driving instructor for a driving school. Many girls want to learn to drive from a female instructor, and most of them are IT freshers, so Didi would be available after office hours to teach them.

Didi always reached home tired, but she would still smile at him. Mohan often felt guilty about what he was doing behind her back whenever he saw that smile. That smile showed how much she trusted him. She was withering away for his future and was happy doing it. All for him.

But he couldn't help it. He felt liberated whenever he danced as "Mohini". He forgot all his worries. His body, his soul, his mind everything felt light during those moments. He felt as if he was alive. He was breathing. It was a world where he was real.

"Mohan!!" Krishan called out as she came out of the bathroom.

"Did you eat?"

Mohan shook his head, "Did I ever eat without you?" Krishna smiled.

They had a quick dinner and started the work on his assignment. Mohan pointed at the diagrams for his sister to draw while he prepared for his test.

Aryaman walked towards their room. He just wanted to give Krishna the parcel, which arrived in her name this afternoon. He wanted to avoid another Tamasha, so he waited till most of the family members were asleep. Whenever they met, there would be someone who would create some sort of scene. He couldn't even have a peaceful moment with her in his own house.

He sighed. He knew that giving this parcel was just an excuse. He just wanted to see her, talk to her, listen to her, and maybe even more. Aryaman was not a teenage kid. He knew he was attracted to her, but he was not sure if he should label the attraction as love. He had never been in love before, so he didn't know how it felt. He didn't want to make any hasty decisions regarding these unresolved feelings. What if he just misunderstood and made everyone's lives miserable?

When he entered the guest room, he saw both siblings immersed in their tasks. Mohan was sitting at the study table, studying and highlighting his textbook at regular intervals. Meanwhile, Krishna was seated on the floor with a newspaper spread out in front of her. She was hunched over, drawing something on A4-size sheets, her face scrunched in concentration. Aryaman smiled to himself and wondered, "Why does she always look so cute?"

He knocked on the door on the door, and both the siblings looked at him.

"What happened Aryaman-sir?" Krishna asked as she stood up while adjusting her dupatta.

"Nothing. It's just there was a parcel for you." He said as he entered the room.

"Oh! It might be my LIC agent business cards and Client forms." She said as she took the parcel from him.

"Pushkarji had told me that it would arrive this week."

Mohan slumped on his chair disapprovingly. "Didi... Why do you want to do this? You are already working too hard."

"Don't worry Mohan! I am just doing a part-time. Even if I get 2-3 clients per month...Then, I'll get a minimum of ten thousand per month as commission."

Aryaman stopped himself from commenting. He was irritated that she would overwork herself but would not ask for his help. He just wanted her to stop and relax. But he knew that she would not listen. She was stubborn at times like this.

He looked at the drawings and asked about them. After knowing it was for Mohan's assignment. He offered his help.

"Oh! No... Need of that, Aryaman-sir. I am sure you are already tired after work." Krishna protested.

"And you are not?" He stepped closer to her. His intense eyes bored into hers, making her blush and look sideways.

"Mohan, I'll write down the content." He said.

"Ok... Aryaman-sir. I'll share the photos of my friend's assignment." Mohan replied and shared the pictures on WhatsApp. Aryaman internally smirked. No matter which decade it is... this copying and pasting of Assignments will remain constant.

Krishna settled herself comfortably, fully engrossed in her drawing. As she focused on her artwork, Aryaman positioned himself beside her but soon realized that it was challenging to write in such a slouched posture. His tall and broad stature made it even more awkward, and the sound of Krishna's bangles chiming with every movement proved to be a delightful distraction. Each time he glanced at her, he found himself momentarily captivated, unable to concentrate on his writing. Frustrated by the constant disruptions, he finally stood up, unable to write even a paragraph.

Why were they even sitting on the floor? He had a table in his room big enough for both of them.

"Krishna, Come to my room."

As soon as he said those last words, he realized his stupidity. It wasn't that she never visited his room. She did visit that room from time to time. She often had to discuss or consult about something or the other. But him calling her to his room at midnight would imply something totally different. He looked at Krishna, hoping she was not too disturbed or, worse, disgusted.

But to his surprise, Krishna was so concentrated on her drawing of 'The Protozoa', that she just nodded and said, "Hmmm... yes... 1 minute."

He felt embarrassed about his over-reaction. Was he the only one with those kinds of thoughts?

As he turned around, his gaze briefly locked with his brother-in-law's before they both averted their eyes. At that moment, he came to the realization that Krishna was, without a doubt, the most innocent among the Joshi siblings.

He left the room to avoid any more awkward situations. Krishna came behind him carrying a stack of A-4 size papers. Walking towards his room, Aryaman found himself grappling with conflicting thoughts. While he felt relieved that Krishna hadn't misinterpreted his intentions, her unconcerned attitude around him left him slightly troubled. This raised doubts in his mind about whether she viewed him as a man.

He walked inside the room engrossed in those thoughts. It was when he reached the table that he noticed his companion was not behind him. He turned around to see a hesitating Krishna near the door. Her cheeks were slightly pink.

"What's going on, Krishna?" He observed her cheeks flushing even darker, a telltale sign that she had just stumbled upon a revelation. Despite her evident discomposure, he managed to keep a composed expression, giving the impression that everything was business as usual. Witnessing his unaffected attitude, Krishna drew in a deep breath and uttered with unwavering determination, "Nothing."

He turned his back towards her as she came inside to avoid showing his shameless smirk. He HAD some effect on her after all.

To be continued...
