I have seen the one where he dies at the end. Is there any other ending?

Devsaab had collaborated with Nobel Laureate Pearl S Buck for the Indo-American co-production of The Guide. It was a hugely hyped international collaboration, the first of its kind. Two separate films were shot for the eastern and the western audiences. The English version scripted by Pearl Buck was directed by her incompetent associate Tad Danielewski and it failed miserably in the US despite the hype. Hindi GUIDE faced huge troubles in getting sold due to its failure.

Listen to Devsaab's accent. smiley14

He requested Pearl Buck to tutor Waheeda ji in English. Buck asked her to speak in her natural accent. The problem with the film was that it just wasn't good...rather superficial and vague. Danielewski ruined it. Westerners also had a problem with the lack of kissing scenes. smiley36

Yes Dev's accent was much better 👍

To be honest when I first saw Guide ( i was very young at that time) even I didn't understand why the film ended like that. I also didn't like Waheeda ji's character. I felt it had a slight negative shade.

Regarding its songs i was initially the fan of the obvious more popular ones but later on (during a certain phase) - 'wahan kaun hai tera' became my most favourite.smiley36

Those grey shades made Raju and Rosie realistic. As you mature as a viewer, you realize Raju wasn't faultless. It was his greed and gambling/drinking, and his neglect of Rosie (except when he wanted to sleep with her) which made her distant and bitter.

GUIDE has a song for every phase of one's life. Wahan Kaun Hai Tera has Shailendra at his best. Kyun naache sapera? 🔥

I love all the songs but there's a bit of extra love for Tere Mere Sapne smiley42

Guide is an all time classic. Adapted from the novel by R K Narayan. Dev Anand and Waheeda were perfectly cast for their roles. Goldie Anand directed a masterpiece for all times.
