We have "unsaid love" which is "nascent", it can only withstand the test of time, if there is trust and respect !
Mr. Anirudh Bose has a hell lot to redeem, they both have fallen prey to a situational tragedy and are reacting the way their characters are expected to.
Ani's weakest trait is his jealously, and for want of a better word , an "unhealthy" one ! As was expected, his character is blinded by rage , we witnessed something similar though understandably not to this extent when he first learnt about Rahul. At that time, he wasn't even in love with Jhanak, probably just had the sub-concious connection of being his husband and he still felt somewhat betrayed. He wants Jhanak completely to himself, he probably thinks he "owns" her !
Sometimes he re-iterates that Jhanak's would be husband is rich and will gift her diamonds and take her on foreign trips. At other times he lists what AK can do for her, make her a big name and gift her big banner films. He unconsciously compares himself with these prospective suitors of Jhanak and tries to gauge what they can give her, which he can't ?!
It similar to how Jhanak compares her self with Arshi and finds Arshi "khadi utarti hai to Sirjee's Kasauti"
The lack of trust and insecurities creep from the lack of proper communication ! They themselves don't know whether they should pay any heed to the abuses they hurl at each other, because half the time they mean just the opposite and say them to push eo away.
They are a push-pull couple and Ani has converted a supposedly "no strings attached" bond to a "all strings attached" bond
The truth is, no matter how much you intend to be, you can never really be "selfless" in "love". You may start of being selfless, but you will have your conditions come up in the journey. "Dur se tumhe dekhunga and all that" - read "sirf main timhe dekhunga aur koi nehi hona chahiye aas pass"
Ani is shown to be conservative, some what orthodox and a moral police, even with his own sisters and disapprove of them ogling over the superstar AK. If not for AK, may be he could have an issue with a certain costume Jhanak wears when she is modelling just because he thinks it is too "revealing". He will be once bitten, twice shy and sign her up for only spiritual ads in the future
I liked that the makers kept him true to his character and his monologue upon watching the pics "minutely" , though distasteful, were honest of the character. He did not mince his words in expressing his disapproval.
Did he then expect Jhanak to turn down the ad when she learnt that it was "this romantic"? and possibly jeopardise Sirji's job? When he was the one who brought this ad to Jhanak and potentially served her on a platter to AK.
What would have helped his thought process, is perhaps a clearer view of Jhanak's mind and her equation with Rahul. Or a clearer perspective on why Jhanak gave a nod to marry 'Avinash Bhaiya'.
It is his inability to "judge" people correctly in general and read the mind of possibly the most important person of his life, coupled with Jhanak's "zip the lip" chuppi, plus the rumours that keep cirulating about her, that is taking a toll on a relationship, that they do not acknowledge they have, but would still have to protect.
"Lekin Jhanak bhi koi bachi thodi hai....agar woh kuchh nehi chahti toh Aditya bhi kuchh nehi kar sakta" - Like readlly dude? When did "No" ever mean "No". The concept of consent, space and line is so alien in the society they depict !
Ani's worst fears have come true or so he thinks, and he feels betrayed ! It is when he cannot understand "his" Jhanak, and finds her most unpredictable, that he turns the most vile ! So he will not give her a chance to explain ! Because in his court, she is already guilty !
Sure, she could have protested to AK's advances, she has placed her ownlife in danger. But she is still a naive 22 year old, who let her Maasi decide her groom n fate, the same Maasi she knows, wanted to drown her. She is not aware of the lanes and dark alleys of this profession and AK comes across as a stalwart, who will not take No for an answer.
Ak will keep picking cues from Ani's behaviour of an estranged husband and play devil's advocate. AK will hit him where it hurts most ! Ani had his heart in the right place with Jhanak's career but did not factor in the heartbreak in the process !
Jhanak will unfortunately never be able to un-love Ani, but best she does not compromise on her self-respect for the sake of this jealous Ani.
Ani needs to better manage his jealousy and give Jhanak a fair chance now and always. His Basu genes are not as recessive as we think they are, after all !
P.S. Kudos to the make-up artists for giving Krushal that "burning in jealousy" look. And he aces each emotion with elan
