Yes. In the US, living together with someone without marriage/love is no big sin/mistake. Infact, in many Indian cities too, especially metros, couples live together and not everyone marries/lives with one partner all their life.

But the show is supposedly made for the traditional Indian who believes in celibacy before marriage, monogamy, and a strict no-no to live-ins. Besides, Shruti is emotionally attached to Anuj and Aadya. So whether the story is set in India or abroad is immaterial.

Right now, Anuj's character is coming off as someone who used Shruti as a caretaker for his daughter. Also, he was just in a rebound relationship with her. If Anupama hadn't returned in his life he would have continued to live a life of compromise with Shruti. That's not correct! If he couldn't forget Anupama, he should have never led Shruti to this position!

In india too many marraiges are forced by parents and elders

Many are not in love and just adjust for family and society sake

anuj should not have lived in with shruti and wasted her 5 years

Anuj doesn't love Anupamaa he is just obsessed with Upma , Just like how Upma is obsessed with Shah's and claim its her love towards shah's..

The leads of this show dont even know the meaning of Love, they are just obsessed...

Anuj did mention that he had relationship with other people but didn't find anyone with whom he can settle down...So we need to conclude that Anuj didn't actually love Upma for 26 years...he was probably genuinely trying to find a partner and was unable to find one...so his love should not be hailed at all...coz there is no love in first place U can't be in love with someone and have relationships with other people and tat too for 26 yrs...

People hail him coz its a picture painted to audience stating that a man waited for a woman shiddat se for 26 yrs...but the underlying truth of he never waited is not all people understand especially the TV audience I suppose...hence people give into that painted picture of Shiddhat se Pyaar kiya nonsense and hail ANuj's love..

After trying all options he came to India and found Anupamaa again who is his first love...toh wanted to explore bas...toh shaadi kiya bande ne...isme hail wala angle kaha se aata hai...

I will never hail his love for upma tbh....its just obsession he has towards her...
