You're right! She was terrific in 7 Khoon Maaf. I may be wrong but she won Best Actress Critics for it, right?
Would you classify her as a negative character though? From what I remember, she is genuinely looking for loving relationships right? She ends up marrying horrible men who abuse her in multiple ways which leads her to getting them bumped off. I guess those acts in themselves make her negative. But it's an interesting question. Guess where we draw our moral lines would define how we classify her role?
Btw- I am not sure many have watched it but Revathy in Raat is the scariest and most amazing performance I have seen in that genre in Bollywood.
Priyanka didn't got any popular awards for this.
yes she was a victim of circumstances but she chose to murder people one by one.. that can't be a positive trait... lol
I have watched Raat... it was very scary but I will held KAUN above Raat rank wise..... Raat seems kind of an amateurish attempt with its execution maybe due to quite low on budget.

Though not an out and out villain, I think Veronica in Cocktail had a lot of grey in her character and its by far 1 of her 3 best acting performances along with Piku and Tamasha where she is completely in the character.
Refraining from getting in to an Alia debate but she was pretty horrible in Heart of Stone.
She has shades of grey, that's for sure. I guess Veronica is the closest Deepika got to playing a negative role. In a different movie, she'd probably snap and become murderous like Urmila in Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. Cocktail is the movie that really made me like Deepika since her films after Love Aaj Kaal were all pretty bad.
The original (now deleted) post I was responding to was making a joke about why Heart of Stone was not included. I've never seen it and never will but I've heard the worst reviews about the film and her performance and I can't say I'm surprised. Without having roles carefully curated for her, we see the real "talent" underneath the plastic facade.

Urmila followed by Priyanka.
Kajol is way too over rated for Gupt.
Come to think of it, only in the last 10 minutes her villanious and negative side was visible in Gupt, but in 95% of the film she visibly played a positive giggly role despite been a villain...
So Gupt as per screen time should not even be considered her full fledged negative role as she has shown her performance in a negative role only at the LAST TEN MINUTES OF THE FILM and it was nothing exceptional as well acting wise.... it's just that she got the benefit of the twist at script level, but hardly shown a negative performance as per the demand of her role which was revealed only at the end of the film, unlike other actresses who PERFORMED a FULL FLEDGED negative role during their entire screen time.
WHO ELSE AGREE? 🤔
I agree with you. Kajol's really only exposed at the end. She does have earlier scenes, where if you know the ending, you can see that she's not all that innocent and looks about ready to snap, but it's hard to see why people rate her performance so highly when there's barely any screentime of her as an actual villain. I think people are more hyped about it being a twist ending that most weren't expecting than her actual performance.
Urmila in kaun was very very scary!

You're right. Its not a positive trait. I think I wasn't mentioning extremes like positive or negative but something in between around the normal range. What does she do with all the abuse and also when the laws of marital abuses are not the strongest and the abuse itself sometimes difficult to prove. But it's more an abstract discussion. I agree it should be classified as a negative character. I used to watch this legal drama 'The Practice' back in the late 90s and the way those Boston based defence attorneys fought cases, it was probably where I was coming from in this discussion.
I know there is some overlap but I think also Raat would fall into the Horror genre and Kaun would fall into Suspense/Mystery.
Veronica wasn’t a negative character though, it wasn’t even gray shaded, she was the only one I ended up sympathising with in that film.Originally posted by: RaniPreityAish

The one and only Anu Agarwal in the movie aptly titled Khal-Naaikaa. Not surprised that it's not mentioned here
I voted for Laadla from performance perspective.
Role wise it’d be Urmila’s any given day. Kaun and also PTKK was freaking…. scary !!! I remember Kaun giving me nightmares.
And that’s from a list minus Tabu’s stint as RPA mentioned. From Tabu’s list alone, I cant choose between Maqbool and Haider, so thank you for not including her I could have never ended up voting.
Urmila in Pyar tune kya Kiya
Kajol in Gupt
Priyanka in Aitraaz
Very difficult to pick one..I liked all 3. I voted for Urmila thinking that it would have a low rating but all 3 are at 19% now..so that's a win.
They were really good performances
This thread made me realize negative roles are more fun, when played by women especially
Not BW or Indian but is anybody watching 'Marry my husband'? Everybody is good including the male villain but the female villain, her performance is delicious 😋
