sounds like a rape apologist story line which can be quite problematic and triggering to watch. Ultimately punishing the offender for his heinous crime but not before making the audience “feel bad” for him 🤦🏻‍♀️🤯

maybe that’s just scratching the surface from what you wrote about it. But I do wish south Asian cinema and tv could leave these kinds of stories behind.

Of course your portrayal remark makes perfect sense. Zahid is a great actor and I don’t doubt it for a second that his performance would have been top notch.

An amazing story is Haiwaan with Faisal Qureshi, Sawera Nadeem and Wahaj Ali. I can’t tell you how utterly mind blowing the performances there are. I mean wow. And it’s such such suchhhh responsible story telling too. When I say Wahaj, even as a supporting actor, picked solid scripts, this is definitely one of those scripts. And FQ nailed the role of a murderer in guilt but you never feel sorry for him because his guilt is extremely selfish. It’s about child assault and murder committed by FQ who plays Wahaj’s dad in the drama and how FQ keeps this a secret for years. Eventually wahaj ends up married to the victim’s older sister who’s still searching for the culprit of her sisters murderer. It’s an emotional ride for sure.

No clue, but I don’t know how this can end decently in 2 episodes

We should also prepare ourselves for Badar editing in the ost scenes again for the final Zaid MJ shot 🙈😂😂

Just dreading it. I feel like he’s saving the Zaid taking a bouquet for MJ and her riding that bike for the last sequence of the drama lol

I read about Haiwan but I don't really want to watch bcz it's heavy. Infact I think I did watch some clips.

About Sangat, it was a coincidence because I totally love Saba Qamar & Zahid Ahmed. On top of it I love their pair so when I came across I just started watching it. It was a surprise.

Zahid Ahmed is definitely a very good actor but the problem is with the writing as well. Sometimes what happens is writing is correct & the way actor plays a villain makes people root for the villain and sometimes the writing is such that there is some sort of justification. Again I feel rape no doubt is a heinous crime and there is no justification and mercy for that. But it's a reality that a criminal, even a rapist can eventually realise or repent may be (very rare & not justifying it at all). In this story, Zahid is repentant and very guilty about what he did but the problem is, you can't show such things because not everyone understands it. It will come across like chalo ye koi badi baat nai, iska bhi redemption hai if you are really sorry about it which gives a wrong message. No doubt many things are a reality and cinema tries to show that but what comes across to audience who are influenced is that it's okay to be like that.

In that way what actually villain should be played & written like is in few of earlier SRK movies like Baazigar, Anjaam & Darr. I was always rooting for the opp side when I watched these movies & didn't feel an ounce of sympathy when he dies.

Try watching Sangat if you feel like & let me know. I suggested this to @chicksoup bcz I mostly resonate with her opinions here

Omg Haiwaan is sooo good. Very sad and definitely a difficult watch but it everything was dealt with sensitively. Performances were fabulous. I think this was early in Wahaj’s career and he was amazing in it.

One of the things I loved about it is that despite FQ’s amazing performance and guilt, the drama makes sure you don’t feel bad for him. It’s a delicate balance to maintain which I felt the drama achieved well. Also the bittersweet end. Especially the angst and loss of trust in the Maan Momina dynamic 💔 Ugh so well done and realistic. And each scene so powerfully written 🥹 Wahaj was brilliant - from the generous supporting husband to an egoistic son, he depicted the conflicted emotions really well

Zaid never got proper screentime but I feel Wahaj tried his best even in those small scenes. And unlike Murtasim or Saad , he is a very flawed hero whom everyone was not supposed to like anyway.
