Jan 18th is the Death Anniversary of India's first Superstar singer - none other than KundanLal Saigal more popularly known as K.L. Saigal.

I didn't have the time to do a full length write-up and I feel bad - I'll probably do it in his Birth Anniversary but let's at least commemorate the Death Anniversary of this legendary singer who left this world too soon. All the great singers from that era from Rafi to Manna Dey to Kishore Kumar to Lata Mangeshkar idolized Saigal and the male singers aspired to be him. Such was his impact during those times.

Although his style of singing may seem outdated in today's era, there is no denying his prowess and the quality of his voice. That baritone remains unmatched to this day! He goes to such low pitches without missing a note. The hallmark of an exceptional artist.
