Filmfare likes Rani a lot. I think this one she'll definitely get especially as she was snubbed for Hichki. She got nominations in the past, but she was working sporadically and acting was on the backburner for her. Now she's confirmed that she's back to acting fulltime.

I'm very curious who the rest of the nominees will be.

Taapsee for Dunki

Deepika for Pathaan (it was not a special role but her starpower and the film's success will likely net her a nomination)

Will they give Ameesha a nomination for Gadar 2 since she got one for the first Gadar and also earned an honorary Filmfare for that.

Katrina for Tiger 3 since the film revolved around her

Shilpa for Sukhee

Alia for Rocky aur Rani

Rani should win it. She really has no competition. If Kareena had a cinematic release, it would be her for sure. And actually, we would see both Kareena and Rani winning best actress awards, both regular and critics. How wonderful would that have been to see??

Funny enough, Katrina may actually have been on the list if Merry Christmas released this year....idk how her performance is, but from the trailer it looks to be one of her best. Obviously she would not win, but a serious lack of competition might have actually put her on the list.

I do know that, but my point has to do with the longevity of both. That 20 years later, they are still top actresses winning awards for their award worthy performances. And seeing them both win in the same year would be extra special.

Shame that Kareena missed out.

This has been discussed before. No one felt Kareena was deserving. I've seen Dev and have literally no memory of her doing anything relevant. Urmila deserved the Critics Award for Ek Hasina Thi. If not her then Aishwarya for Raincoat. Literally any of the nominees were more deserving between Preity for Veer-Zaara and Shilpa for Phil Milenge. 2004 was one of the best year for the Best Actress nominees as you can't ask for a more stellar group than Rani, Preity, Aishwarya, Urmila, and Shilpa.

My goodness, the caliber of actresses back then and now we're stuck with Alia, Jahnvi, Sara, Ananya, etc. all Kareena wannabes when she was never a very good actress in the first place to idolize. 90s/2000s actresses all cited Sridevi as their acting icon and now this generation cites Kareena's Poo.

Kareena is one of my fav but to award her for dev when we had urmila for EHT and Aish for Raincoat is just bizarre. It is also bizarre how she was never awarded when she truly evolved as an actor post JWM and most of the awards she has are from the time when she was just here and there.

Chameli and Dev were good performances but not award worthy at all. It was more of a consolation price to encourage that she transitioned to this from plain awful acting she was doing in 2002-2003 beg in movies like MDK, MPKDH, Khushi etc. Also this filmfare special performance award made 0 sense, glad it got scrapped. It was such a consolation price to award those who would have never won otherwise which is why we had the likes of kareena (then) and Ameesha win one.

Kriti won for Mimi, and that was an OTT release, so maybe Kareena is eligible ?
