When you want to maintain diplomatic relations with a country you do not send assassins to kill their citizens on a foreign soil. Interestingly enough this stuff has never come up under Manmohan Singh or any PM before him.

in fact, India should privately tell the americans and canadians that to hell with their hypocrisy. We will go after the termites wherever they can be found. Israel has this policy. Taking out Osama and using drones to attack terrorists in Pakistan, the US has had very similar strategy.

So let the US or Canada sulk for a while. Other than "warn", let's game what will she do? Probably diddly squat! The chinese and russians are taking on the US, and the US needs as many strategic partners as she can. The Justice Dept also generally works independently, so they will do their usual indictments if they have proof. I dont think either Biden nor Trump can or will step in to stop that. But foreign policy is not changing, and that's the big prize. That's a ship that has sailed, and it's hard to turn giant ships around.

Only way my assessment goes wrong is if americans continue being stupid when it comes to foreign policy. Track record hasn't been that great ever since the of end of WW2.

I did not know they requested USA. This just looks very bad. So one hand they request USA to put pressure on Qatar and on the other hand try to kill a US citizen too.

Reports on the said plotting and thwarting are sketchy at best. Sounds like both India and US are angling for some credit, one for "daring" to do something on US soil and another for "foiling" the bid. Since nothing happened anyway in this victimless "crime" smiley36, it would be business as usual moving forward.

US didn't even go public with this news but since the news got leaked were forced to mumble something about it. The US is hardly in a position to "warn" India; sure they can reprimand a diplomat. That's what the diplomats are there for - to get pulled up! That and entertaining guests with whiskey, their job description of "negotiating treaties and overseeing international relations" notwithstanding.
