India have thrashed the defending champions in front of a packed stadium in Lucknow. On a tricky two-paced deck, the hosts were asked to bat and they lost three of their top four batters for single-digit scores. Captain Rohit Sharma adapted to the conditions and top-scored with a classy 87 and forged a crucial 91-run stand with KL Rahul. SKY's 49 and the 21-run stand for the ninth wicket took India's total to 229. At the halfway stage, England would have been the happier side as dew had already taken effect. They even scored 30 runs off the first 27 balls, but something spectacular followed that and England were blown away.

Bumrah kept bowling in the tight channels and provided the early breakthroughs via back-to-back wickets. Malan chopped on and Root was trapped plumb in front for a golden duck. Shami got the ball to nip around and was almost unplayable. Stokes tried to slog his way out of trouble but in vain as he departed for a duck and Bairstow followed him immediately. It was top-class pace bowling from the Bumrah-Shami duo. England couldn't recover from that blow. Kuldeep bowled a ripper to clean up Buttler. That was the killer blow.
