Problem is that they don’t work at BO. Remember even SRK at his peak couldn’t save Swades.

Yes, I have watched Ghoomar. I love Balki's films.
Me too... btw. Ghoomer was one of those sent to the Indian Oscar committee who chooses the one movie for the Oscars...Maroon made a topic about.
jawaan is a lengthy film worked pathaan tooOriginally posted by: DanceUntilWeDie
Maybe today, if it's shorter it'd work.
We don't want extra lengthy films with actor and actresses just looking into nothingness.
Yaar look alive, say your friggin lines show some emotion.
Save that elitist acting for the streaming sites and festivals.
I think lootera also flopped cos of that. Too many shots of just nature and stuff.
I think it's the best love story in Hindi in this decade but regular layman audience couldn't connect cos it was too bland.
I thought Parasite was really overrated, don’t get the hype. But would love more movies like Dev D. and Gully Boy to be produced. I think the issue is that there’s not much middle ground - often it’s either super commercial/massy or really niche/dark. For me it’s all about the quality of screenplay and the cast. I don’t care if the film is mainstream or not. Recent example is Mission Impossible Dead reckoning. I’m not an action junkie but the screenplay, pace and acting were just so stellar that I thoroughly enjoyed it. BBB is still mentioned as a brilliant romcom because the script was brilliant and fresh and Anushka/Ranveer were raw, natural and connected well with the audience. It wasn’t super deep but such a classic.
Citizen Kane was a snoozefest in all honesty. I could barely sit through 20 minutes without falling asleep. Even Parasite didn't evoke much emotion within me.
Also, how do you define 'experimental', Minty?

Yeah, I do think streaming has killed that mid-budget semi-artsy films that were being made 2010-2015. Piku, Barfi, Kahaani types. Even rom-coms have to be so big and glitzy now to work.
Even in HW , it’s the only big event movies that are working. Low budget movies and indies are pretty much dead.
