Fair enough. It's still iffy and reflects a very old-school mindset.
I don't think Ash is an oppressed wife. She is a capable person who makes her own choices.
But both Big B and Little B rub me the wrong way with things they say. It's always sugar-coated patriarchy with them.
How, though? He's saying the exact opposite of what would termed old school. He's saying just listen to what the kids have to say. Don't expect them to simply follow hierarchy.
AB Sr. is clearly sexist. Junior B has also said sexist things.
But this particular episode is not. It's giving off vibes of an understanding parent, TBH.
I do not believe it is a coincidence that Aishwarya's career really started to slow down after her marriage. Suddenly the major films were not there anymore with a few exceptions.
Ash also gave up Dostana and Happy New year so that she doesn’t overshadow Abhishek. Both big ticket films.
What’s sad though is that even if Ash stays away from limelight Abhi still hasn’t made it to the big league of successful actors. I like Abhi too, he seems sorted but I guess being Amitabh Bachchans son and later Ash’s husband made him insecure. That’s why Ash just left it all to appease him.
There have been examples of the wife being more successful and the man is secure enough to take it. Look at Kareena and Saif for example… when was Saif s last successful movie ??? whereas Kareena’s career is doing quite well.

They recently celebrated 19 years of marriage. How did it last so long? Did they reconcile or is it all a sham? What do you think?
