Rab ne banayi jodi?

Okay, we all fall in love and some of us even get married to the person we love. We are all aware of the first rush of love and the euphoria of being newly married. But in spite of the high that love brings, we manage to leave our beloveds and go back to our professional lives, to earn our daily bread.

And if we ordinary folk can do it, why can't celebrities wean themselves away from the mushy mush and go back to doing their jobs as single entities, once they are hooked? Why does an Aishwarya Rai make it known that she prefers working with hubby darling Abhishek Bachchan? Why do producers make a beeline outside
Kareena Kapoor's house to sign her with beau Saif Ali Khan? And why do new lovebirds Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja get joint offers to do prestigious films?

What would happen if ambitious women outside Bollywood followed the same pattern? Can you imagine a senior executive applying for a job in a company and putting down the condition that she will take up the job only if her husband or boyfriend is hired with her? Do you think she would stand any chance in the competitive world?

However, this 'together' trend is a fresh change from the earlier one where heroines insisted on taking their mothers along on the sets probably to keep the wolves at bay? Imagine my mother sitting besides me and looking around disapprovingly at my male colleagues, while I am busy typing this column in office! Shudder!
