The cast of Kalank did extensive promotions as well but I’m willing to bet none of them were surprised when the movie flopped. Promotions doesn’t always mean they believe in their product. It just means they want that extra attention and hype for their movie. In Bollywood a lot of times promotions also means they want the public to know when their movie is coming out. It’s to push the crowd into theaters on that opening day.
RRKPK may or may not work, but the way it’s being received at this point feels underwhelming for a Dharma and Karan Johar movie. That doesn’t mean it will flop or that it will not be a big hit. But for now people thinking it won’t be a success is based on more than just typical IF reactionary talk, IMO anyway.
Announcing this movie now is obviously a PR move. Whether it’s to deflect from RRKPK or whether it’s to put the idea that Alia is moving into action genre (this is a jailbreak movie so it has to have some action) with the news of her becoming part of YRF’s spy verse is anyone’s guess at this point. But yea there’s a strategic plan behind putting this news out there now.
Tbh, the cast of kalank did seem surprised that it flopped, alia said that it was one of her biggest heartbreaks as she really believed in the film and she was heartbroken for the director aswell as that was his dream project.
And Social media and this forum have biases, I'm not saying those that don't like the trailer or songs dont have a valid opinion, but there is alot if hate towards alia, ranveer and kjo and that can be seen by nearly every thing about rrkpk being criticised on social media, from hairstyles, clothes, expressions, people saying they are looking too old, over acting, under acting, the songs are copied from other movies, they are trying to be srk/kajol wannabes, they are misfits, arijit is screaming when singing the songs etc etc
So taking just social medias view of this film doesn't give a complete picture of how the movie is going to eventually do at the box office. I have watched several reactions on YouTube and they have overall been very positive for the movie.
I dont know how the movie will eventually do at the box office, alot of it will depend on the wom and reactions the actual film gets when people watch it. Kalank got bad reviews and wom, I imagine if the reviews and wom was better then it would have done better at the box office
And this is kjos own movie, he wouldn't put out a half hearted product, its his name and reputation on the line, I'm pretty sure he believes in a film he directed himself
