If they are just college mates then the leads won't have interactions with the other one's family. Ramdhan dramas are basically family dramas so they need the esemble cast. Everyone lives in a joint family as well.

I can think of a few Yeh Dil Mera where leads were childhood friends, YKS where they were working in the same hospital, all Ramadan romcoms have cousin marriage except Fairytale I believe and HumTum (?). There is Anaa but only Izza and Altamash were not cousins, Daneen and whatever his name was, were related. But mostly I think the males are related to the family in one way or another.

ZGH, they were batch mates and then they worked together.

In Zgh and yks there are a lot of episodes with minimum to no interactions between the leads. In today's time when all the hype are created on the basis of the leads that type of love stories won't get the hype. Even in FT i think it had the least interactions between the leads for a ramdhan rom-com. There are episodes with not much interactions or no interactions between the leads.

The main reason is definitely to show as much interactions without keeping the time in mind. If the leads are neighbours or cousins from the same house they can freely interact at day or night.

I only watch what interests me. I'll binge watch jhok sarkar once it ends because it's hard to wait for mystery thrillers.

I don't think cousin marriages are that popular in Pakistani real life as much as they show in dramas or maybe it varies from family to family. In my family most of my cousins are married but none has a cousin marriage. Everyone is married to someone from outside the family.
