The colour of love When it's Holi it's mischief! |
Holi is a festival celebrating seasons and nature in all its glory, when flowers and fruits bloom abundantly on trees all around. Holi is the festival of love and romance, of recalling the divine lover, Lord Krishna playing gulal with the gopis and dancing with his beloved Radha. Hindu mythology is full of stories about Lord Krishna's revelery with the gopis during Holi , captivating them by his charm, enamouring them with colours and the sweet sounds of his bansuri (bamboo flute). Does the pure love filled with mischief of Krishna for Radha still exist in today's world? ShaadiTimes gets into the mood of the season and takes a look at some of the mischievous pranks celebrity couples played on their partner on Holi. Braj mein hori khelat nandlal Television actress Mrinal Kulkarni and her advocate husband Ruchir Kulkarni were childhood friends and with every passing year their friendship veered towards love. It was the festival of Holi that brought them together. "Being Maharashtrians, we celebrate Holi as Rang Panchami. During the five days, we prepare sweets and perform pujas at home to bury the hatchets and throw all worries to the wind. Rang Panchami is the most eagerly awaited festival because that day me and my husband play with colours and phichkaris," says Mrinal. "The naughtiest prank my husband has played on me, during Holi was when I was six years old and he was nine. Being neighbours we went to the same school and would play together, so playing Holi was coming together of two families. In fact, on that particular Holi , we fought and I was reluctant to talk to him. Moreover, to make him jealous I started playing with my friends completely ignoring his presence. Later, he came near me as if trying to apologise he splashed silver colour on me and ran away. I just stood there numb with his mischief. After 14 years, we got married and even today we play Holi with the same enthusiasm as we did as kids. This is one day when you just want to fill your life with colours and love," says a smiling Mrinal. Rang barse Television couple Rinku and Kiran Karmarkar are truly romantic when it comes to celebrating the festival of colours. "I love the vibrancy of colours and the feel of cold water. The entire atmosphere looks like a rainbow filled with colours," says Rinku. "Kiran is a shy and quiet man; I am more mischievous of the two. I remember once when we were spraying each other with colours, someone suddenly played the song rang barse in the background. I pulled Kiran to dance with me and we ended up doing the typical rang barse dance number for which we were applauded," remembers Rinku. "Now that my little son Ishaan is there, we don't play with colours for the fear that it might hurt his eyes, so I just put a tilak on the forehead. But I do make a point to apply gulal on Kiran's face." Holi khele Raghuveera The soft-spoken Salil Ankola can in fact be quite naughty when it comes to playing Holi with his wife Parinita. "All our Holis are celebrated at my brother's bungalow in Thane. More than colours, it is the food that attracts me, be it dahi wada or a delicacy of raw jackfruit or the traditional malpua," confesses Salil. "I love playing Holi with Parinita because she just runs away when I try to throw colour on her, so I prefer to drench her with coloured water. Once I pretended to apply gulal on her cheeks and I ended up colouring her entire face." "Holi is a festival celebrated with high spirits without any distinction of cast, creed and status. It is one occasion when sprinkling colour on one another breaks all barriers of discrimination so that everyone looks the same," philosophises Salil. Holi ke din dil mil jaate hai He plays a greedy husband in Kasauti Zindagi Kii and she his arrogant and stern wife, but in reality Poonam and Manish Goel are a lively and loving couple. If Manish is shy then Poonam makes up for all the fun. The same goes for Holi . "I am not much of a colour person," says Manish. "I like to gorge on food and bhaang during Holi . But Poonam loves playing with colours. I remember our first Holi , when we had gone to my mother- in- law's place at Bandra. I was just chilling out, watching everyone play with colours and suddenly Poonam came from behind and drenched me with gulal. I ran after her and poured the entire bucket of coloured water on her and we started applying gulal on each other. The fun part came later because we took three hours to wash off the colours." |
