Rather Lagaan became more popular after Oscar nom.
It did become a big hit and was loved more by critics and was indeed a better made film with good message and patriotism.
But Gadar scored over all films that year in terms of sheer popularity among masses. Dark horse of that year.
Even multi starrer like K3G could not outdo it in India.
In North India, Gadar was like a wildfire. Unstoppable.
Here is something coming from the horse’s own mouth. It’s interesting how Sunny and Aamir have clashed not once but thrice and all the three times both of them have won gold at the BO. That’s what happens when two good movies come together. They boost the enthusiasm of the viewers and lure them to the cinemas in hoards. It’s ridiculous how the whole movie watching culture has been degraded to the euphoria of the first 3 days , and movies’ fates being decided in these 3 days.
