This song is not really about the rain, but I love the imagery that rain creates in the song, how rain symbolises raging emotions and questions that is directing one towards change.

Marathi album Gaarva (meaning cold, as in breeze) has been almost every 90's Marathi music lover's favorite for years. Released in 1998 and powered by Milind Ingale's music and Soumitra aka Kishor Kadam's lyrics, this album is a compilation of six songs (plus one reprise) that describe the advent of the monsoon after a scorching summer. Each song is preceded by Soumitra's poetry, with narration by the poet himself.

For years, it had literally been a ritual for me to listen to Gaarva songs before the onset of the monsoon.

This is the first and title song of the album, Gaarva, picturized on Sunil Barve and Smita Bansal.

Garwa was quite a rage in it's time and it's continued popularity continues to amaze me. It is a timeless melody.

He taakla ka kuni??

The song is a child asking his mother to let him play in the rain and describes all he will do while out there in rain.

Ekadaach g bhijuni mala chinb chinb hou de

For once, let me be drenched in the rain.

Megh kase bagh gadagad kariti

Wija nabhaatun mala khunawiti

See how the clouds rumble and thunder claps, teasing me from the skies

Tyaanchyaasnge anganaat maj khup khup naachu de

I want to dance a lot with them (clouds and thunder) in our yard

Badakaancha bagh thawa naachato

Beduk daada haak maarato

Paanyaamadhuni tyaancha majala paathhalaag karu de

Ducks are quacking, frogs are calling me, I want to run behind them in the water

Dhaarekhaali ubha raahuni

Paayaane mi udawin paani

Taap, khokala, shinka,

Sardi, waattel te hou de

I will stand beneath the pouring rain, splash water everywhere

I may fall sick - cough, cold, fever and what not but let that not spoil my fun.

Many love stories begin when the lovers are still kids, as in Devdas!

This love story is a moving account of everlasting love and its joys and agonies, an enticing stream of primordial need for interaction, and a desire to be together!

This song recounts the childhood days of children in a tiny village surrounded by paddy fields, and a railway line in a faraway place!

Tooneega Tooneega Song:

Singers : Usha, Sanjeevini [Usha is my distant cousin; we used to play together when we were kids at my grandfather's house.]

Lyrics : Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry

Music : R.P. Patnaik

Second para hit me hard!

Need for touch, affection, hug etc shouldn't be written off and they can be very well platonic irrespective of the gender..That feeling of loneliness, sometimes can be depressing..I know this is irrelevant to what you have posted, but those few words were enough to trigger the recrudescence of vexatiously morose atrabiliousness 😶

No, this wasn't posted. Tfs and reminding of this childhood song.

Tbh, I never dared to say this to my Aai. 😆😃
