There is a world we live in and there is a world we make for ourselves.
In the world we live in, we put our best foot forward, we wear masks of happiness, express our feelings in joy, break down to cry not for ourselves but for others and the suffering and pain they go through.
In the world we make for ourselves, we are in constant motion of confusion. Am I to be happy? Am I really sad? Should I not be thankful? Do I deserve this? Did I really want that?
We want to believe that the world we live in we have no control over but the world we make for ourselves we do. But maybe, just maybe, we don’t have control over either.
Saif’s character and his inner turmoil makes me think of how little control we actually have over anything, and for someone like him, who has never known control, maybe this turmoil is torture of which he has gotten so used to, that he cannot recognize happiness, joy, something just for himself any more.
In the world we build and make for ourselves, we may have no control, but we learn to be happy for ourselves, find little joys that can fill us with wholesome laughter and love…after all, isn’t that what all of us hope for in our lives.
Love between two people is and should be like a blissful blanket over a hard day’s work …where the world we make for ourselves meets the world outside.
For me, Samiya has brought that into Saif’s life …he just needs to recognize it.
