Yes, I do find initial story to be similar. Pooja Bhatt's parents also gave her away at birth because she was a girl child. Paresh Rawal played the role of Ali Rehman and he was really good. Paresh Rawal then brings up Pooja Bhatt.

Do watch the movie, it is really good and was one of my faves.

I was not bored and looking forward to next one.

I liked the fact that even though there is struggle they are still showing few positive things here and there, like masjid scene and professor support.

So yeah it's not a downright depressing show.

I like the aesthetic of the show.

The b/w Guru and camaraderie his friend is fun to watch.
