For farmers, rain is a matter of life or death. In this song, farmers call out to the clouds as "Elephant of the Sky" (Airāvata) to throw down some rain for them.

Movie: Kuberāçaṃ Dhana (1953)

Lyrics

Āsusalī mātī

Pikavāyā motī

Ābhāḷācyā hattī

Ātā pāūsa pāḍa gā, pāūsa pāḍa

The soil's desperate

To ripen barley-pearls

Elephant of the Sky!

Now drop rain, friend, drop rain!

Meghāñcyā rājālā zāūna sāṅga bā

Ḍhagāṃnī kāzaḷu de ḍoṅgarāñcī rāṅga bā

Ḍoṅgarāñcyā taḷī

Karapalī kāḷī

Harāḷīcī muḷī

Punhā gheū de vāḍha gā

To the rainclouds' King, go and tell, sir!

Let the clouds blacken the row of hills, sir!

At the hills' base

Scorched black

Green grass's root

Let it pick up growth again, friend!

Çārā nāhī gāūlyāṃnā, dūdha nāhī vāsarāṃ

Dhārāvinā perā nāhī, koṇa āmhā āsarā

Nadī-nālā āṭe

Kāḷazāta tuṭe

Vṛndāvanī vaṭhe

Dārī tuḷaśīçe zhāḍa gā

No grazing for cattlekin, no milk for calves

Unwatered, sowing's nothing. Who's our refuge?

River and canal shrink

Hearts are breaking

In the planter shrivels

The basil-plant at the door, friend!

Dharaṇīcyā poṭāta sāṭhū de ola gā

Ruzū de biyāṇa gavatāta khola gā

Olyāvara unhaṃ

Nīvatīla manaṃ

Kuberāçe dhana

Maga motyālā moḍa gā

In Earth's belly, let moisture gather, friend!

Let seeds germinate deep under grass, friend!

Upon wetness warmth

Minds will cool down

Kubera's vast riches

Will be change for barley-pearls, friend!

The rainy season has special charm in the woods, where nature appears to dance with joy. Kannada inspires Marathi and a female's delight inspires a male's fantasy in this situation.

Song: Śrāvaṇa Ālā Gaṃ Vanī

Singer: Asha Bhosle

Movie: Varhāḍī Āṇi Vāzantrī (1973)

Actor: Indumati Paingankar

Lyricist: Gajanan Digambar Madgulkar

Music: Ram Kadam

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms3Dss1Gyqk

Lyrics

Śrāvaṇa ālā gaṃ vanī, Śrāvaṇa ālā

Daravaḷe gandha madhura olā

Śrāvaṇa has come to the woods, friend, Śrāvaṇa has come

A sweet, moist aroma spreads

Ekalīça mī ubhī aṅgaṇī

Ugīça kuṇālā āṇita smaraṇī

Cāra diśāṃnī zamalyā tovara gaganī ghanamālā

All alone, I stood in the courtyard

Needlessly bringing up someone's memory

From four sides in the sky, meanwhile, assembled raincloud-rows

Barasū lāgalyā rimajhima dhārā

Vārā phulavī morapisārā

Halū lāgalī zhāḍe velī, nāça surū zāhalā

Streams of rain began, rimajhima

Wind fluffed out the peacock's feathers

Trees and creepers began to move; the dance began

Urāta navakhyā bhare śiraśirī

Śīra śīra karī nṛtya śarīrī

Sūra kuṭhūna ye Malhārāçā, padara kuṇī dharilā

My youthful heart entirely shivered

Vein after vein did its dance in my body

Whence came a strain of Malhāra? Who caught my wrap?

Samīpa kuṇī āle, zhukale

Kitī dhiṭāvā, oṭha ṭekale

Mṛduṅga kī tī vīza vāzate, bhāsa tarī kasalā

Someone came close, bowed his head

So much boldness, our lips pressed

Drumming, or a thunderclap? What did I imagine anyway?

The sun can be out and the skies can be blue but what can you do if it's raining in your heart?

I heard Tommy Roe's version first and that still has my heart, but Buddy Holly! ⭐️

Raining in my heart - Buddy Holly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLeZof1wGps

The sun is out, the sky is blue

There's not a cloud to spoil the view

But it's raining, raining in my heart

The weatherman says clear today

He doesn't know you've gone away

And it's raining, raining in my heart

Oh, misery, misery

What's gonna become of me?

I tell my blues they mustn't show

But soon these tears are bound to flow

'Cause it's raining, raining in my heart

But it's raining, raining in my heart

And it's raining, raining in my heart

Oh, misery, misery

What's gonna become of me?

I tell my blues they mustn't show

But soon these tears are bound to flow

'Cause it's raining, raining in my heart

Interesting.. How people from same city can have a totally different take. It’s not rain has not interrupted things in someone’s life somewhere or others.. but I have such fond memories of rain.. Here are the best 3 .. first was what you mentioned.. rains/floods - the annual thing. Thing is this led to some of best fun times for me. My dad/uncle etc would take us (my siblings/cousins) etc to frolic in the rain / walk through high waters.. and then a sumptuous brunch… oh the times… then we all waited for Powai lake to flood…. This was because it was a long awaited family picnic. As soon as we got the news.. we all headed (large extended family) to bathe in what was basically a waterfall of the water coming over the retaining wall of the lake… so we went… bathed under the water fall and ofc picnic and then some restaurant for brunch… oh the days… and finally Bhushi Dam in lonavala was the last piece of the puzzle. As soon as it flooded it was yet another family picnic time… This one my older cousins loved as it got them to drive the family cars and off we headed…. The hot vada pavs (older cousins sneaking off to get a beer) etc… Fun times and simply amazing memories….. In fact Karjat was infamous for its food on the way there… 😆

So to start us off… a fun rain song :)

Even if someone else posted it earlier, to get to have a second bite at the cherry never hurts(for those who would have missed it the first time) 😆
