Harry Potter is being rebooted as a series by Warner Bros. It would stream on HBO Max and would have 10 seasons.
Its true that a series would be a more faithful adaptation of the books than the movies because of a longer duration.
The movies from the third installment started cutting down info from the books, which often made them confusing. Some things in the movies make no sense if you think deeply about it and haven't read the books.
But would it have a more authentic portrayal of Hogwarts, wizarding world and characters like they were described in the books? I don't think so. Creative liberties would still be taken.
Harry Potter movies despite all its criticism were lightning in a bottle. Its not a small feet that they managed to complete the movies in time. Any delay would have resulted in disruption because the child actors were growing fast. It took great timing, commitment and patience to complete the movies.
The movies also had legendary senior actors. The series won't have them. So we won't get to see the same remarkable acting talent.
Biggest reason a reboot at this point is not needed is because the movies are still popular and fresh in audience mind. The actors have became iconic in their roles. Fans also didn't ask for a reboot. They want to see new stories, wizarding world from other characters POV. The universe is vast. They can do so much. A reboot telling the same story is lazy cash grab.
