I am still going to say the thought process of Akshu is totally being misrepresented and I blame writers for it. But from what I have seen it is that
Akshara didn't ask Abhinav to be father because she was weak or couldn't handle the baby! In past she had already told hospital staff that her child does not have a father, but seeing what Abhinav had done for her child and knowing how Abhinav craved for a family, and her noticing Abhinav looking at her sonography made her take the decision that Abhinav deserves to be called the father!
Had any of the above things not happened, Akshara may have just raised Abhir on her own with Abhinav being just somewhere around. She married Abhinav because of him being her child's father, but Abhinav being father was not out of "Any Need" for child to have baap ka naam for Akshara, it was more because EVERYTHING Abhinav had done!
I think she clearly stated that when she said Maine apne bacche ko pehli baar Abhinav ke paas dekha - Zindaa!! was a trigger point and when nurse assumed him to be baby's papa (Papa ki Kameez pakadkar sote pehli baar dekha hai...), she took the decision to let Abhinav be part of the experience called family! It's all 9 months and not just stormy night, but that night contributed the most!
I agree with most of what you said but disagree with the interpretation. I don't think Ak was too weak to raise a child alone, but that is what they have shown. I have tried to defend Ak's choice here multiple times, but her reasoning isn't great. She decided that Abhi doesn't deserve the truth or her child, and she would raise the kid alone. Fine. But she never actually tried to be independent of Abhinav. She didn't want to go back to Udaipur no issues, but how does that mean she has no access to any money from her parents or grandparents? Doesn't want to take money, okie, why can't she teach music? Trauma, okie, but she can teach English, right? In this hillside town, she would easily get hired to be an English teacher.
Then when Abhir is born and the stormy night and 4 days happen, I understand she was overwhelmed by how much this person had done for her. So she offered for Nav to be her child's father. But there were a few other factors involved :
1. She could tell the Goenkas she had a child ( maybe a year later) and could maintain a relationship without revealing Abhir's real father.
2. Abhir would never have the insecurity of not having a father and, more importantly, would never ask her questions about that. He would get the love of a father, despite her choice of depriving Abhir of his real father. Because that is what she did. She decided Abhi doesn't deserve his son, but she also decided that Abhir doesn't deserve his dad. I don't want to fight about her reasons for this, but it happened. Nav was a better father to Abhir, and so she has NO guilt about hiding Abhir's real father.
3. She never actually had to learn to be independent. Till now, she has no proper business or source of income. Nav takes care of that. I am not saying she doesn't help or that housework isn't a full-time job. But....if they wanted to show independence, she could be shown to have some stable work (again, teacher).
Ak basically got a jackpot in the form of Abhinav; it was a HUGE stroke of luck. But yes, it is showing that she needed a man in her life to raise the kid. If not for any other reason, simply to have her kid feel loved by both parents and live in a traditional family unit.
On the other side, Arohi told Ruhi everything about her father, and she accepted it and moved on. She wants poppy to be her real papa now and live in a traditional family unit. So it's the same thing. Arohi made the choice to try to be "independent," but it didn't work super well. While Ak decided not to be, and even that is not working super well cause Abhir is way more hurt by the lies than anything else.
